Gretchen Paux is a new artist with Blue Morning Gallery who combines her throwing skills with sculpting and unique glazing techniques using locally sourced materials. She has provided us with this description of her process and photos of stages of its progress. "The Octo-bowl is a 22" sculptural piece featuring an intricate octopus wrapping around its rim. Made entirely from local, found materials and crafted by local hands. The clay was hand-dug from Perdido River, a special place for my family, and the glaze was created from ashes collected from a nearby wood kiln. Over 80 hours of meticulous work went into wheel-throwing the bowl and sculpting the octopus, with each te****le and suction cup thoughtfully detailed. After its creation, the piece won the Award of Excellence at the Pensacola State Fair. The Octo-bowl is now hanging out at Blue Morning Gallery, awaiting his forever home."
