Lavender Riots

On the evening of October 6, 1998 , Matthew Shepard visited the Fireside Lounge and the events that followed led to his death in one of the most infamous LGBTQ+ hate crimes in American history. Matthew died on October 12 at 12:53 a.m. at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado with his family by his side.

In honor of his legacy, we hold space on this day for reflection and remembrance.

We had BIG plans for National Coming Out Day. 💜

Hurricane Isaias had other ideas. 🌀

We're pressing pause on the big reveal.

Instead, we're checking on friends, helping with cleanup, and showing a little extra love to the people and places that make this community what it is.

To everyone celebrating National Coming Out Day: whether you've been out for decades, came out yesterday, or aren't ready yet — we're here for you.

And to our Pensacola family: we love you.

We'll see you on the other side of the cleanup. 🪩
