There are people who entertain us.
People who inspire us.
And then there are people whose very existence gives us permission to become more fully ourselves.
For us, one of those rare people has always been Dolly Parton. 💗✨
There would be no Polkadot Entertainment without Dolly. And, in many ways, there would be no Chesley without her either.
Long before there was a company, a stage, a microphone, or a polka dot, there was a little boy watching Dolly and learning that you could be unapologetically yourself while leading with kindness. That femininity could be powerful. That faith could be deeply personal without becoming a weapon. And that success means more when you use it to lift others.
We didn’t just take artistic inspiration from Dolly. We took lessons for living: a love of teaching and working with children, especially those with special needs and those learning English as a second language; a desire to uplift everyone around us; the importance of healthy boundaries; and the understanding that the person the world sees and the private person you protect can both be authentic.
Dolly has spent her life loving people without requiring them to become someone else first. She has championed music, books, education, theater, imagination, and the arts while extending compassion to people too often judged by the world, including LGBTQ+ people and q***r communities.
And perhaps that’s why her story resonates so deeply with q***r people.
Dolly was told who she should be. Instead, she became Dolly. Completely. Spectacularly. On her own terms.
There is something profoundly q***r about saying, I know who I am, and I’m going to build a life that looks like me.
That spirit lives at the heart of Polkadot.
So thank you, Dolly, for the songs, the stories, the generosity, and the example. Thank you for helping Chesley become Chesley. And thank you for inspiring the world that became Polkadot.
