‘Into the Woods’ was NOT an easy show, but two people joined our crew this year who truly helped us make our show magical.
Thank you to them both !! 🌲
🎼 Mike Doheny (Music Director) is a retired Choral Director and Drama Music Director from Winslow Township High School in Atco, NJ, formerly Edgewood Regional High School, where he proudly worked for 31 years. He has music directed and performed in many South Jersey and Philadelphia theaters over the past 30+ years. In 2026, Mike has served as music director for Anastasia at the Broadway Theatre of Pitman, Godspell for Do It Big Productions, and Into the Woods for Pennsville Summer Theatre. Currently, he is music directing and will be performing as Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd at Haddonfield Plays & Players, and looks forward to music directing the next mainstage musical at HP&P, Finding Neverland. Mike understudied the role of John Hancock and went on for 17 performances as Caesar Rodney in Walnut Street Theatre’s 1776. Other recent roles include Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Callahan in Legally Blonde, Lieutenant Schrank in West Side Story, Franklin Hart in 9 to 5, and Shakespeare in Something Rotten. Mike is a three-time NJACT Perry Award nominee - he was most recently nominated for Best Music Direction for The Mystery of Edwin Drood(HP&P, 2024). Mike resides in Wenonah, NJ with the Mayor (his wife, Jessica), and their children, Jill and Joey. His grown son, Patrick, resides in Milford, DE.
My favorite thing about Into the Woods at Pennsville Summer Theatre was the commitment of the students. They asked their directors to do the full version rather than the junior version, and then worked so hard in a 5-week period to learn, memorize, and perform this very difficult musical theatre piece with humor, expression, and empathy. I truly enjoyed every rehearsal with these fine performers!
🎵 Jim Sheffer (Conductor)
Jim is a freelance trumpet player and pit orchestra conductor based in southern New Jersey. He has performed and/or conducted throughout the Northeast. Some favorite performances include: The Regional premiere of Spamalot at The Ritz, Company at the State Theatre of Havre de Grace and Parade at the Broadway Theatre of Pitman. In addition to Jim’s extensive professional credits, he conducts the pit orchestras for Haddonfield High School, Pennsville High School and Holy Cross High School. He resides in Medford Lakes, NJ with his beautiful wife, Terri and is proud of his daughters, Tori and Jamie who are also involved in the Arts!
His favorite thing about Into The Woods is easy! The best part for me was to be able to work with so many of the Pennsville HS students who I have enjoyed conducting the past few years!
