These workshops, led by local and regional artists, help preserve cultural traditions while nurturing artistic expression across all ages.

Located on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts (CSIA) was founded in 1992 by artists James Lavadour (Walla Walla) and Phillip Cash Cash (Cayuse and Nez Perce). As a nonprofit organization, CSIA’s mission is to provide a creative conduit for educational, social, and economic opportunities for Native Americans through artistic development. Over the past 30 years, Crow’s Shadow has grown into a nationally recognized studio for contemporary fine art printmaking, offering artist residencies that foster creativity and collaboration in a professional studio environment. With a focus on lithography, the program invites artists to work with expert printers, producing high-quality editions of original prints that are then exhibited and sold through Crow’s Shadow. This program has attracted both emerging and established artists from diverse backgrounds, contributing to the growing recognition of Icontemporary Indigenous art in major collections and exhibitions worldwide. In addition to printmaking, Crow's Shadow offers a Traditional Arts program that provides workshops in traditional art forms, including basket weaving, beadwork, cornhusk weaving, and more.

His work along with others are featured in the Museum's exhibition "Multiplicity: Printmaking from Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts", which closes October 18. Be sure to check it out!

New Faces at Crow's Shadow | Meet Alli Gaines

Please join us in welcoming Alli Gaines to Crow’s Shadow as our Printer-in-Residence!

Alli is a Tamarind-trained printer from Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, and holds a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. She brings a passion for collaborative lithography, printmaking, and community-centered nonprofit work.

During her time at Crow’s Shadow, Alli will work with visiting artists and students and help lead our new community printmaking workshops (see below).

We’re excited to welcome Alli’s creativity, skill, and collaborative spirit to the studio!
