Pendleton, OR - New Editions
Crow’s Shadow is pleased to release three new lithographic editions by rhiannon skye tafoya, created during her residency in 2023.
rhiannon skye tafoya (Eastern Band Cherokee and Santa Clara Pueblo) employs printmaking, digital design, and basketry techniques to create artist’s books, prints, and paper weavings. She creates in order to preserve: archiving and sharing personal and familial stories, cultural teachings, and honoring the Cherokee language. Having observed her father and maternal grandmother weaving baskets from red willow, honeysuckle vine, and white oak over the course of her life, tafoya’s own work represents a beautiful and entirely unique integration of this family history of basketry within a parallel set of media. Her work is decidedly contemporary, featuring sharp lines and bold colors—meticulously crafted designs, woven both literally and figuratively.
Through these three lithographs, tafoya maintains her families' rich artistic heritage through her own hand, finding the resonance between two highly process-driven and devotional craft practices: printmaking and basketry.
