The Department of Music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). This accreditation ensures that we have top quality music faculty (over 25), curriculum, facilities, and support for your music study. There are approximately 150 music majors, minors, and concentrations in the UNCP music department, including both graduate and undergraduate studen

ts. There are thirteen full-time faculty, fourteen adjunct faculty, and five staff members. Their pictures, bios and contact information are on our Faculty/Staff webpage. We are proud of our small classes and familial atmosphere. The faculty and staff sincerely care about the students and their education. The Department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Music, a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, a Bachelor of Arts in Music with Elective Studies in Business, a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre, an academic concentration, and minors in music, sacred music, jazz studies, and Media Integration. The Department also offers a Master of Arts in Music Education and a Master of Arts in Teaching with Music Specialization. The mission of the Department of Music is to offer all students who have demonstrated interest and ability in music the opportunity to continue further study either for a profession or an avocation. We strive to educate students in such a way that they understand and appreciate music not only as an art form with a rich historical and cultural heritage, but as an ongoing, contemporary endeavor that incorporates tradition and technological advancements through individual and group participation. The Department of Music is located in the Moore Hall. The performing spaces in the building include the instrumental rehearsal hall (band room), the choral rehearsal hall, and the recital hall (Moore Hall Auditorium). Moore Hall Auditorium seats approximately 200 people and is used for most of the department's events. Givens Performing Arts Center (GPAC), which seats over 1,600, is used for large ensemble performances, and other large music events (UNCP Honor Band, UNCP Honor Choir, hosting events like District Band, All-County Band, etc.). The University Center annex is also used for some performances and events (some jazz ensemble concerts, choral concerts, etc.).
