Get to know the candidates! Over the next few weeks, we'll introduce you to the nine young women nominated for the 2027 Tulip Time Royal Court. Each nominee was asked to share what qualities they believe are needed to serve on the Court, and we're delighted to share small snippets of their thoughtful responses.

Lucy Carlson is the daughter of Kelly and Kevin Carlson and attends Pella High School. She writes, "I believe that court members should be compassionate, dedicated, humble, kind, and servant hearted. "

Amelia Carlstone is the daughter of Amanda and Spencer Carlstone and attends Pella High School. She shares, "As ambassadors of Pella, it is important to not only remember our past but to carry those same qualities of strength, a welcoming spirit, and vision into the future."

Bella De Haan is the daughter of Lindsey & Derek De Haan and attends Pella Christian High School. She says, "Being approachable, encouraging, and compassionate toward others can make a lasting impression on the community as a whole.

Executive Director Jessi and Assistant Director Liz have been having a blast at the Iowa Museum Association conference in Ames! In between rides on the Story City Antique Carousel and walks through the butterfly garden at Reiman Gardens, they’ve been learning from other museum experts about exhibit building, capital campaign development, effective leadership, and more.

Director Jessi is especially excited to be joining the Iowa Museum Association as a board member. It’s wonderful to collaborate with other museums across our state!

Another exciting discovery in the archives- Maria Scholte's broken plate😯 As we continue to organize the Scholte family collection, we have been sorting through lots of artifacts that have been carefully examined, but not recorded in our online database. The wonderful Elaine Jaarsma, a volunteer who dedicated many many hours and great knowledge to our archives in years past, had this plate assessed by a repair company in 1997. Needless to say, those assessments are a bit out of date, but we are so thankful to Elaine and others working on the archives team at the time for carefully storing and caring for this piece of Pella's history. ✨

Your Thursday reminder to make some cozy fall plans🍂☕🎨 A cup of hot tea. Something sweet to snack on. A paintbrush in hand. And, by the end of the evening, a bookish autumn painting to take home with you.

Autumn Tea & Painting is coming up Friday, October 23, in the Scholte Garden Room! Dora Olson will guide you step-by-step through the painting, so you absolutely do not need to consider yourself an artist to join us. Come with a friend, bring your book club, or claim a seat for yourself and enjoy a cozy evening at the Scholte House.
