ABOUT SOOP (http://www.sooptheatre.org/)
Since its inception in 1998, The SOOP Theatre Company (acronym for “Seat Of Our Pants” – appropriately named, since we seem to be “flying” by it most of the time!) has been committed to the individual and their needs as a whole artist. Conceived out of a general frustration with the “audition process” and sheer exhaustion from hearing, “Wow…that was reall
y great…let me know the next time you’re IN something!” from the industry “powers that be”, SOOP strives to find the individual that is committed to their craft – be you actor, director, playwright, musician, dancer – with our SAME goals in mind: to do strong, passionate, invested work. If you can bring that to the table, we will make a commitment to give you a professional, nurturing and well-supported theatre experience - one that encompasses artistry, production value and industry support, all of which are necessary to facilitate a career in this profession. Nowhere is this facility more evident than in the implementation of our “educational arm”, The SOOP Theatre Arts Program. Taking root in 2008, STAP has allowed us to take our commitment to excellence in the theatre arts to the most fertile ground – the youth of southern Westchester! Based at the historic Manor Club in Pelham Manor, NY, we have grown from offering one, small acting class to a full season, which includes two mainstage productions a year, workshops, voice lessons, college/audition coaching and public speaking for just over one hundred kids ranging from grades K – 12. With FUN always being the top priority, these kids are fully immersed, working at a professional pace (four weeks on our mainstage productions!) with an entirely professional staff, blending novice and seasoned performer. The result is an amazingly, frantically, fun theatrical experience had by all! The icing on the cake has been the inclusion of young, professional adults performing IN our teen mainstage program. The benefits, to both kids and professionals alike, have been incredibly rewarding and we hope to see only great things continue to grow! CONTACT
