Rain or Shine!

Hoping for a round of “Barnyard Golf” and a 75-cent turkey dinner? Sorry, you’re about 85 years too late! Those were the draws at Pelham’s Old Home Day back in 1941. We can’t promise either this year, but the tradition itself is back: this Fourth of July, after many years away, Old Home Day returns to Pelham.
WHERE: Pelham Historic Complex, Corner of Amherst Rd. & Daniel Shays Hwy.

SCHEDULE (Good Weather):
1:00 to 2:00 PM Old-Fashioned Games on lawn in front of Historic Complex: Tug of War, Burlap Sack Race, Three-legged Race, Hemlock Relay Race

2:00 to 3:00 PM Reading of the Declaration of Independence by 30+ Pelham-affiliated volunteers, inside Town Hall (1st floor); after the Reading, Ringing of Steeple Bell (Museum)

3:00 to 4:00 PM Music Program on lawn near the tree featuring Cindy Naughton & Michael Flaherty and David Boyden; Ice Cream Social—ice cream served on Town Hall kitchen counter

This Event is co-sponsored by the Pelham Historical Society and Pelham Library with the Support of the Pelham Board of Selectmen.

More about Old Home Day: Pelham held its first Old Home Day in 1917, part of a New England custom begun in 1899 to welcome former residents back and renew the bonds of the community with shared meals, old-fashioned games, music, and stories of the town’s past. See Pelham celebrating c. 1940 below, and come join us this year for a revival of the tradition and a celebration of the Fourth of July in Pelham!
