Romeo & Juliet: A Bear-y Fine Romance
Once upon a time, a fashionable black bear named Juliet decided that the family den needed a little freshening up.
Her Husband, Romeo, looked proudly at the fishing poles, old road signs, and selfie of himself beside the dumpster behind Publix.
"But my sweet", Romeo said, "I've already decorated!"
Juliet crossed her paws.
"Romeo, that isn't decorating. That's evidence."
So Romeo, Juliet, and their little Cub, Scout made their way to Griffith Art Gallery in Pelham after a fun hike at Oak Mountain State Park.
As Juliet admired the paintings of European Masterpieces, Babbling Brooks, Colorful Birch Trees, she called out:
"Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo?"
"I'm behind you sampling the treats in the bowl of chocolate."
Scout stopped in front of the colorful birch painting.
"Pa, what kind of art is this?"
Romeo, who had scouted out the gallery the day before and learned a few things, paused before stating, "Its not Cub-ism, I believe it is heavy impasto knife painting in acrylic".
Juliet, after perusing the huge collection of original oil and acrylic paintings- discovered the perfect one, a peaceful autumn painting of a path leading through what reminded her of her childhood home in Big Canoe, Georgia.
"This is the one!" she declared.
Romeo opened his f***y pack a sighed dramatically.
"But soft! What light through yonder wallet breaks? It is emptiness-and Juliet has found another painting!"
Juliet gave him the look.
Romeo quickly handed over the credit card, after being reassured that they could take the painting home on approval.
"Art thou pleased, my love?"
"I am."
"Then I'm mildly satisfied".
The brothers Griffith quickly framed the painting ready to take home.
Once the painting was hung above the sofa, their den looked warmer, brighter, and far more inviting.
Romeo stepped back, smiled and said, "I'm glad I talked you into going to Griffith Art Gallery, the painting really transformed our cave int a home!"
And from that day forward, they lived bear-ily ever after- with a few more trips to the gallery to fill in a few other spaces and something for the expected baby sisters room over the crib.
Romeo never again felt like he had to decorate from what he dumpster dived behind Piggly Wiggly, and he did get to go to Marks Outdoors without feeling guilty.
