Things I am tired of hearing as an artist:

1. Oh, you're from Mississippi?! Where are your magnolia paintings, your cotton bowl paintings, blues motif paintings?

2. Oh, you're a Christian? Where are your religious art? You should totally paint that.

3. Oh, you're a Christian? Why don't you paint prophetic art like Such-and-Such? You would sell so much that way.

4. Why are your paintings so expensive? I can buy something similar at Hobby Lobby. You would sell way more if you were cheaper.

5. Oh, my sister's cousin's uncle paints too. I bet they could totally paint this for me. Mind if I take a Pic?

6. I paint too! I'm gonna snap a quick Pic then paint it myself.

7. Paint me something....I mean for like free.

Sometimes you just have to stretch yourself. This is only my second portrait, but I am happy with the result.

Value study done using Ohuho alcohol markers. Now to lay down some color. I haven't decided on a background yet. May do a minimalist seascape. He makes me think of a sea boat captain about to spin yarns of the sea.
