In my piece, Beauty of the Victoria Regia, I wanted to focus more on that spiritual essence. The Victoria Regia Lily has rich spiritual significance. It is often linked to rebirth, purity and enlightenment, and symbolises transformation and growth. Our country, yet again represented by the woman, is holding a lily bud, symbolising the potential we have yet to tap into. The woman is looking straight forward, not noticing the blossoming lilies that everyone else can see. The world has its eyes on Guyana right now and can see our purity and potential for transformation that we aren’t fully aware of. The water element in the background represents our land of many waters and the kindness and generosity that flows through the heart of our Guyanese citizens whenever we have visitors.

In the Queen of the Jungle, the gold on her head is a representation of our golden arrowhead and our rich resources of gold essentially crowning our country. On a spiritual note, gold is typically worn by and gifted to women, and often a representation of royalty and abundance. It is also associated with Yang and Sun energy. Our beautiful country is often compared to a woman due to the shape we see on the map. So I found it very fitting to have the woman be a representation of our country, decked in gold and standing amongst our hinterland forest with our flag. As an incredibly spiritual person, I believe that women are a gateway to the divine as they are able to grow life within their womb and then birth that life into the world. Our country is like a beacon of light in this new world as we are rapidly developing. We are akin to a high value woman that everyone wants a piece of. She has our Jaguar by her side to represent the power and natural protection we hold. In our South American traditions, the Jaguar is considered a protector of the sacred and a symbol of mystery and intuition, and is associated with strength, courage, and independence. They are often seen as guardians of the spiritual realm so I wanted our jaguar to stand by the side of and guard the spiritual gateway that is woman. They are both looking away to indicate strength, confidence and dominance.
