Payson Main Street (500 S- 700 S) Update- Construction Road Access

Current Status and Timeline
• Immediate reopening: By tomorrow, the contractor will remove and demobilize all existing traffic control devices. Payson Main Street between 500 South and 700 South will be completely reopened to through traffic.
• Work resumption date: Crews are scheduled to resume work on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
• Traffic impact: There will not be a full road closure when work resumes. Traffic barrels and safety cones will delineate the active work zones, ensuring residents and commuters can pass through freely.
• Safety reminder: Drivers should exercise caution and be mindful that the corridor remains an active construction zone while crews finalize the remaining sidewalk and landscape improvements.

The City Beautification Committee was back at it again early this morning making the Main Street interchange look a lot better in preparation for Onion Days! We are so grateful for all their hard work! We encourage everyone to take some time and make our city shine!

We want to celebrate the favorite events, memories, traditions, and little moments that make Onion Days special for Payson City residents, visitors, and employees.

Employees and patrons of the Payson City Library recently shared what they love most about Onion Days:

Katie’s favorite things about Onion Days are “the parades, just seeing the booths, and spending time as a family.”

Allie’s absolute favorite memory from a past Onion Days Celebration is “the children’s fair, the FFA kids showing off their animals.”

Daisy remembers the year she won a free bag of onions.

Nora looks forward to all the rides, but “not the scary ones.”

Main Street Reconstruction Update: 500 South to 700 South

The Main Street reconstruction project between 500 South and 700 South is nearing completion. Asphalt work is expected to be finished this weekend, and the route will be ready for the Golden Onion Days Parade on Monday, September 7, 2026.

This project includes replacement of underground utilities and water lines, as well as improvements to curbs, gutters, sidewalks, drainage, and the roadway.

Some curb, gutter, and sidewalk work near 600 South and 700 South still needs to be completed. That work will resume after the Golden Onion Days Celebration and Parade. The full project is expected to be complete no later than November 2026.

Quick clean up project this morning by our awesome employees! A crew from various city departments gathered at the corner of 500 S and 100 E to improve visibility and safety. They did an awesome job and were finished before school started at Parkview Elementary! Thanks to everyone who came to help!
