WHAT IS BARKCLOTH?

Barkcloth is a traditional non-woven textile material made by beating the bast fibers of woody plants mostly in or related to the Moraceae family, including figs and mulberries.

In Uganda , the bark of the MUTUBA tree is used to make clothing and accessories. The process of making barkcloth in Uganda has been designated a UNESCO cuktural asset.

The AFRI-ROOT COLLECTIVE:

Founded by Ritah Nakandi with this important mission:

"Empower women through craft making and skills training to work towards sustainability hence thrive with dignity and respect."

JULY 27 1:30-3pm meet RITAH NAKANDI for a special presentation about Ugandan Barkcloth at the Art Annex Link in bio.

Ritah will also be selling Afri-Root Collective goods at the Cultural Survival Bazaar in Tiverton. RI July 24-26th.
