Got the travel itch? Italy, France, Scotland or nearby to Red Hook, Cold Spring and Lagrangeville. You can see ALL these places on the walls at the Live 4 Art Gallery in Pawling, NY.

This is the last week to see this show, “Shifting Light”, the Fifth annual joint exhibition by Manhattan-based Poughquag artist Kathleen Gefell and Brooklyn-based Scottish painter Catriona Herd
They have sold well so see what the excitement has been about!!

Opening Hours during June — Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10.30am to 8.30pm, or by appointment. Sundays, 10.30am to 3pm, or by appointment.

Both Gefell and Herd travel extensively and work from sketches and scenes completed and collected in transit. Gefell's work features scenes from the Hudson Valley and Herd's work gives the viewer a sample of European places.

This year, both artists exhibit paintings that illustrate their mastery of shifting light, a challenge that has consumed artists for centuries. Painting shifting light, particularly en plein air (outdoors), is one of the most demanding challenges in art. A scene can change dramatically in a short space of time. This creates difficulty in blending accurate observation with the urgent need for speed, as colors, shapes and shadows change. As the sun appears, disappears or moves, shadows shift and light levels change, altering the color temperature from warm to cool, or vice versa, in seconds.
Both Gefell and Herd travel extensively and work from sketches and scenes completed and collected in transit.

This is the LAST weekend to see this wonderful show at the Live 4 Art Gallery. Visiting would be a fun indoor activity on a rainy day (or on a sunny day!).
Make time to stop in and see this show which is only up until 3 pm Sunday, May 31!
