Rock and A Soft Place Studios Presents Sculpture VI, the 6th Annual All-Sculpture Exhibition at Live 4 Art Gallery, Pawling, NY. The Opening Artists’ Reception will be this Friday, July 31 from 5-7 pm.
This show will run from July 31 to August 30. The gallery will be open Fridays from 2pm – 6pm, Saturdays from 11am – 6pm, and Sundays from 11am – 3:00pm or by appointment.
Sculpture VI brings together three distinct approaches to the three-dimensional art form, creating a dynamic conversation among the works on view. While each artist maintains a unique visual language, the exhibition highlights shared interests in transformation, perception, and the relationship between object and environment.
Internationally recognized artist Kim Radochio of Gloucester, Massachusetts, presents work that captures movement and energy, immersing viewers in the immediacy of the moment. Her artworks explore transformation, the expansion of boundaries and space, and the movement inherent in life itself. Through her innovative process, Radochio transforms fragile paper, known as shimms, into dynamic sculptural forms. Through an intensive, material-driven practice rooted in a deep connection to place, Radochio creates inventive and vibrant works that balance fragility and strength. Inspired by environmental processes, she has developed distinctive methods that reflect a profound understanding of nature, color, and materiality. The works included in the exhibition span decades and represent the many ways she has explored both this technique and the medium of sculpture.
Hudson Valley artist, Karen Madden, works primarily with metal to express universal human experiences and human feelings. Though precise geometric structures and carefully engineered compositions may be incorporated, most of the time her sculptures investigate balance, tension, and spatial relationships in abstract forms. The works activate the surrounding architecture, drawing attention to how viewers move through and around the exhibition. Minimal in appearance yet rich in complexity, these sculptures challenge assumptions about weight, stability, and scale.
The third artist featured in this all-sculpture exhibition is Bob Madden of Poughquag, New York. Working with a variety of stone materials, he brings an interdisciplinary perspective to his practice. Each sculpture begins with an intimate understanding of the selected stone, allowing its inherent qualities to guide the creative process. Using traditional tools such as hammer and chisel, Madden transforms stone from a cold, inanimate material into engaging forms that suggest narratives and invite contemplation. The subtle nuances of shape and texture offer clues to the inspiration behind each piece, while a deeper appreciation emerges over time as changing light and shadow continually reveal new dimensions of the work. Together, these three artists demonstrate the breadth and vitality of contemporary sculptural practice. The exhibition moves fluidly between organic and geometric vocabularies, handcrafted and industrial processes, and personal and universal themes. As viewers encounter the works, they are encouraged to reflect on how sculpture shapes experience—not only as an object to be seen, but as a physical presence that engages the body, senses, and imagination. By placing these diverse practices in dialogue, Sculpture VI reveals both contrasts and points of connection. Each artist expands the possibilities of sculpture in a unique way, yet collectively they offer a compelling exploration of materiality, space, and meaning. The result is an exhibition that rewards the viewer and highlights sculpture’s enduring capacity to transform our understanding of the world around us.
