Light art has evolved with technology. Natural light has been used for effect in architecture throughout human history. With development of artificial light came the first light based sculpture to be followed by neon. The 1960’s saw the development of a light-space movement. Currently artists are using digital technology to create projection mapping. During the session we will explore the historical progeression of technology and light art

The work of Richard Smith C.B.E
Richard Smith was an internationally acclaimed artist from Britain who spent his later years as a Patchogue resident. His work spanned Pop, Abstract, and Shaped Canvas movements. Smith’s career will be examined from his earliest years in England through his years in downtown NYC to his last works created locally. The discussion will take place while some of his works will be presented in the exhibition at MoCA L.I., Signatura.
