The Eaton Fire made long-standing problems impossible to ignore. Inside Pasadena city limits,185 structures were destroyed, including 117 single-family homes. Firefighters staffed every available rig and called the whole department back, yet limited battalion-chief capacity made it difficult to track every unit in real time.

Today, we commemorate the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, a dark chapter in world history that must never be forgotten. As the Senator representing the largest concentration of Armenian Americans in California, I had the honor of introducing Senate Resolution 33 to remember this Genocide.

As people around the world gather to honor the martyrs of the Genocide, Armenians in their homeland continue to face ongoing threats at the hands of Turkey and Azerbajian.

I join the Armenian community in calling upon the State Department to take decisive action by ending all U.S. military aid to Azerbaijan, and securing the immediate release of Armenian POWs, detainees, and hostages.

It is also imperative to provide humanitarian assistance for the Artsakh Armenians who have been forcibly displaced from their ancestral homeland.

I stand in solidarity with the Armenian community in its pursuit for justice and lasting peace.
