We are deeply saddened by the passing of singer-songwriter, music legend, actress, author, businesswoman and philanthropist Dolly Parton. Every superlative you could apply to her would be accurate.

Dolly was a monumental talent and trailblazer whose extraordinary artistry touched millions around the globe. For nearly three decades, we were lucky she called our record labels and publishing company home. She made songs that became part of our shared vocabulary and crossed genres and generations.

Her generosity was as extraordinary as her talent. She created opportunities for others that she herself never had. Dolly showed that an artist’s legacy is measured not only in songs, but in lives changed.

We send our deepest condolences to her family, friends and fans around the world.

We will always love you.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Clive Davis.

Clive was a legendary figure in our industry and an important part of Sony Music’s history. His instinct for artists and his ability to shape music across genres helped define generations—and left an enduring mark on our company and the broader music community.

Many of you have had the opportunity to work with Clive over the years, and his passion for music and commitment to artists will be remembered by all who knew him.

We will miss him deeply and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and everyone whose lives and careers he touched.

Not only are many many artists we represent continuously indebted to his service but so many staff members have been influenced and mentored by his deep love and respect for our company which he carried right up until today. Michael Jackson’s relationship with John McClain started in their teens and continued throughout Michael’s life. When Michael passed away John McClain, along with John Branca, became the co-executors of Michael’s estate. It is now with profound sadness that the Estate team shares the news of John McClain’s passing. In addition to his role as the co-executor, John was many things throughout his life – a musician, a songwriter, a music industry executive but first and foremost, he was an amazing human being and a great friend to all who were lucky enough to have him in their lives. His legacy will live on through the many people he touched and the music he helped bring to the world. He will be missed here on earth but we hope he has been reunited with Michael and they are making music together again.

Today, we share the heartbreaking news that hip hop legend Rob Base passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, surrounded by family after a private battle with cancer.
Rob's music, energy, and legacy helped shape a generation and brought joy to millions around the world. Beyond the stage, he was a loving father, family man, friend, and creative force whose impact will never be forgotten.
Thank you for the music, the memories, and the moments that became the soundtrack to our lives.
