In the bubble of STEM academia, the ages 22-33 are reminiscent of college graduations, graduate studies, and perhaps a postdoc or two while navigating the faculty search process. We are beyond proud of our 2026 PVC First Place winner, bass Son Jin Kim! 🌟 Alongside taking top honors at PVC, Son Jin has been on an incredible streak — 1st Place at the Giulio Gari International Music Foundation Competition, claiming 1st Place at PSOG, 1st Place at the Opera at Florham International Vocal Competition, earning 3rd Place at the prestigious International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Jūrmala, Latvia, signing with Encompass Arts management, and landing three contracts with the Polish National Opera. This is exactly what PVC is all about. The world is about to know this name. 🎤✨ Congratulations, Son Jin — we could not be more proud!

A very special Sunday! We are so grateful to the incomparable Courtney B. Vance for his incredible generosity and support of the Pasadena Vocal Competition through the Courtney B. Vance Chevalier Award. Courtney was joined by the magnificent Anita Johnson — Metropolitan Opera soprano and celebrated international artist, whose distinguished career included a Festkontrakt at the National Theatre in Mannheim, Germany — for a wonderful visit with 2026 Chevalier Award winner Candace Williams. Thank you, Courtney, for investing in the next generation of opera's brightest stars ⭐!
