Piston Poppers Raceway

Piston Poppers Raceway Motorcycle racing. The Piston Poppers were founded on the premise of being an off-road type club. All events had to be AMA Sanctioned.

To become a member you had to enter two off-road type events such as enduros, reliability runs, scramble races or amateur hill climbs. The first meeting was held on January 29, 1952 at the home of Edgar and Margaret Kauffman in Atglen, PA. Ed and Margaret, two of the original club members, were the successful owners of Kauffman's Cycles in Christiana, PA for many years, and they were instrumental

in promoting motorcycling to many local young men and women. Some of these enthusiasts went on to race at the Piston Popper Track and even some became Professional Motorcycle Racers. Harold Martin, one of the original members, suggested that the club name should be Piston Poppers, because so many of the racers were popping pistons. We held our first race on October 19, 1952 on a 1/10 mile track... Entry fee back then was only 75 cents. The first club house was erected, with the first meeting being held on October 22, 1953. It was built by the members, and is our current refreshment stand. In 1963, the club purchased a new clubhouse on Churchtown Road, in Cain, PA. We hold meetings every Thursday evening at 8:00 PM. We would like to thank all of the volunteers who help us in getting our track race-ready, and the Parkesburg/Pomeroy Fire Companies for their support at our events. If you are interested in helping out, please see one of the members at the track during one of our races, they will be wearing red t-shirts. All of our events are run by Volunteers.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of a beloved member of the Piston Poppers family, Jerry Melinger.

Jerry was a valued member of our organization. He spent countless hours ensuring all of our equipment ran the best it could. Whether fixing a mechanical issue or stepping in to help, Jerry was always there with a helping hand and valuable advice. His dedication kept us moving, and his kindness left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jerry's family and friends during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Jerry. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten at the track.

We had the honor of being a part of the Celebration of Life Benefit and Memorial Ride for Brad Phillips Jr yesterday. The atmosphere was full of love and friendship. The video is of the ride going past the Rutters in Gap.

We will be having a memorial lap in honor of Brad Lee Phillips Jr during our Father's Day race on Sunday.
