Reflecting on the brilliant LCAN Awards last night at the Carriageworks.

Matilda Jr was a joy to perform this year and Leeds Young Creatives worked so hard to bring a truly spectacular performance to the stage. That definitely showed in the amount of individual nominations for our young people, as well as the nomination for Best Musical. Being in the top three with LIDOS and Leeds Gilbert & Sullivan Society was incredible and shows just how far we have come in the past few years to build back up and celebrate young people in theatre.

Huge congratulations go out to all the nominees from the evening and we are so proud that Aurora Harris and Alex Wood were the winners of Best Young Actress and Best Young Actor.

Celebrations too for our incredible Artistic Director Anita Adams for winning Best Direction Award for Sunday in the Park with George, and to Leeds Gilbert & Sullivan Society for their Best Musical win. Two of our young people, Aurora Harris and Maisie Daniels joined the cast for this production and loved being part of such a talented group.

Exciting times are ahead for us and we can’t wait to start rehearsing for our next production ‘Whistle Down the Wind’, the first full scale show that many of our young people have been a part of, however we know they are up to the challenge!

Watch this space for updates on what is coming up and thank you as always for your support.

In what must have been a very difficult task for the LCAN adjudicators, we’re delighted to announce that Leeds Young Creatives have received 7 nominations. Alex Wood, Jasper Adams-Mead, Liam Edwards and Sam Edwards have been nominated in the Best Young Actor category, whilst Aurora Harris and Winter Devine have been nominated for Best Young Actress. Congratulation to you all - your nominations are well deserved.

Every single one of our young people have been incredible and their hard work, focus and outstanding performances meant that each and every one has shone. And in recognition of this, we are especially delighted to announce that LYC’s production of ‘Matilda Jr’ has been nominated for the Joyce Mower Rose Bowl for the Best Musical – one of just three nominations in this category. We are so proud of you all.

Congratulations and good luck to all our fellow nominees.

The LCAN awards ceremony is on Saturday 5th September at the Carriageworks, and the audience will be treated to a performance by LYC.

Tickets will be available from the Carriageworks box office very soon! Once they're available we'll let you know.

In January, Leeds Young Creatives performed the first act of a brand new musical by West End writers Philip Henderson and Michael E Ward.

On Friday, Show Ready will present the very first full performance of ‘Ratcatcher’ at The Carriageworks Theatre. The cast of young people includes a large number of LYC members led by Anita Adams - Artistic Director and Seán Gleeson as Musical Director.

It has been an absolute privilege to watch them as they prepare ahead of the show. Rehearsals have been very intense, but everyone has worked extremely hard, and it shows in each and every performance.

Tickets are still available, and they would value your support. This will be something very special.

THE DRAMA DIVISION - we're still acting up.

After a well deserved break, The Drama Division will start again on Tuesday 8th September.

This fun and accessible group is open to children aged 10 and over, and is a great opportunity to learn new skills and develop your techniques.

You’ll be involved in starting work on our Autumn production ‘Sketches’ – a series of monologues, sketches, comedy skits and mask work.

We meet every Tuesday during term-time at 6.30pm until 8.30pm at St Peter’s Church in Bramley.

We cannot tell you how stupendously proud we are of each and every young person who took to the stage to perform ‘Matilda the Musical Jr’.

Thanks to them, and the hard work of Anita Adams - Artistic Director and Seán Gleeson, our production was a huge success. Everyone has worked extremely hard and challenged themselves over the last 6 months, and it has shown in the glorious performances.

But it doesn't stop there. Before we welcome our young people back in September, work has already started on production of our Winter performances, as well as our first full-length production - 'Whistle Down the Wind'. We'll share details with you when we can.

And of course, all our shows cannot run with the support of parents, and a team of volunteers who work so hard behind the scenes - our chaperones, support with musical direction, set, costumes, publicity and photography - the list goes on. So we would like to thank - in no particular order:

Matt Stirk, Joe Smith, Emma Smith, Holly Smith, Tina Knutt, Mackenzie Wood, Clare Wood, Georgia Louise Dennis, Richard Edwards, Richard Everson, Kate Haines, Emma Spindler Music, Christina Ann Edwards, Bronia Daniels, Hayley JH, Justine Massie, Kerry DeBruyne, Julie Ricketts, Shelley Everson, Laura Cooper, Humphrey Casely-Hayford, Janice Whitehead, Laura Elliott, Vicky Hands, Sarah Rushton, The Grammar School at Leeds, Slung Low

We are immensely grateful to you all.
Are you all ready to do it again next year??

Saying a sad goodbye to Matilda, from the challenges of double casting, performing in a new venue and props that had to spell things! To the absolute triumph and joy of each performance … here’s a final few treats. Some glorious pics of each cast (thank you Laura Cooper), and the silliness in between shows ( see comments!) and showing off our cast tote bags! ❤️❤️

If you saw the show and have any reviews for us that you would be happy sharing please do post them below, we would love to hear ✏️📚🎶❤️
