Thank You for an Incredible Procession of the Species! 🦋
What a remarkable day of art, science, culture, community, and celebration!
The Giiwedinong Museum would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make our first Procession of the Species such a success. Inspired by the annual return of the monarch butterflies and the incredible biodiversity of our region, this event brought together artists, educators, cultural practitioners, musicians, dancers, families, and community members in a joyful celebration of life on Earth.
We are deeply grateful to our guest artists, Mary Plaster and Chris Lutter, for leading our monarch puppet-making workshop and helping participants create the beautiful puppets and artwork that filled the Procession.
A special thank you goes out to the organizations that joined us to share their knowledge and enthusiasm, including the Bell Museum, Headwaters Science Center, and the Fargo Moorhead Science Museum. Their demonstrations and activities helped connect participants with the wonders of science and nature.
Thank you as well to the artists and vendors who shared their creativity and talents throughout the day, helping make the celebration vibrant, inspiring, and unique.
We are especially grateful to the Smokey Hill Drum Group and the dancers and singers from Northland Community Schools for bringing Ojibwe song, dance, and culture to Heartland Park. Your contributions added beauty, energy, and meaning to the celebration and helped remind us of the deep connections between people, culture, and the natural world.
To the volunteers, organizers, partner organizations, participants, and everyone who marched, drummed, danced, created, carried puppets, and cheered along the route: Miigwech. Your enthusiasm transformed an idea into a living, breathing community celebration.
'Til next year!
