🎨 ARTIST DATE!

Sometimes you just need to step away from your daily routine and go see some art!

On Sunday, I took a little artist’s date to Detroit Lakes, where I spent some time exploring the work of former Studio 176 member Kent Estey, whose work is currently on exhibit at several locations throughout town.

Then I headed over to the beautiful Ortenstone Gardens & Sculpture Park. What a wonderful experience! The combination of art, sculpture, gardens, and the natural landscape makes for a truly inspiring afternoon.

We are so fortunate to have something this special right in our backyard. If you haven’t made the trip yet, I highly recommend it!

Sometimes the best way to get inspired is simply to go look at art. ❤️

HAPPY LABOR DAY! 🇺🇸🍂

I hope you all have a chance to slow down today—to rest, reflect, and enjoy a little time with the people and places that matter most.

Labor Day is a time to recognize and honor the contributions and achievements of workers, but it also feels like a natural pause in the year. Summer is beginning to give way to autumn, the days are getting shorter, and a new season is just around the corner.

For me, this photograph, October Fields, captures some of that feeling—the quiet transition from one season to the next and the beauty found in taking a moment to simply notice what is around us.

A little Labor Day history: The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City on September 5, 1882, during a time when workers faced long hours, low wages, and difficult working conditions. In 1894, Congress established Labor Day as a federal holiday.

So today, take a breath. Rest if you can. Reflect on how far we’ve come, and appreciate the people whose work helps make our communities what they are.

😮 WOW! We totally missed sharing the finished Ada, MN 150th anniversary mural!

Studio 176 artist member Elizabeth Rockstad and her daughter, Nora, created the two photo-op butterflies for the project — Elizabeth made the adult-size butterfly and Nora made the kids-size one. 🦋

The mural was unveiled during Ada’s 150th anniversary celebration in July and WOW, it is AH-MAZING!

Pretty darn cool that Elizabeth and Nora got to work on this together and be part of something that is now part of the community.

Happy belated 150th, Ada! ❤️

Showing at 10am: Looney Tunes: The Movie

The owner stopped into the gallery earlier this week and dropped off a flyer. He said the movie is awesome even for adults.

AND…even more awesome he put together a whole collection of old-school late ’80s and ’90s commercials to watch for a half hour before the movie starts.

SO FRICKIN’ COOL.

We ❤️ our local Park Rapids Theatre. You guys rock!
