"Night Watch Bears & Foxes" by Hunt Slonem reads like a page torn from a fairytale, and we mean that in the best way.โ

What begins as whimsical gives way to something altogether more assertive: bears, foxes, mushrooms, and foliage rendered at a scale that pulls you fully into its world.โ

The surface rewards close looking. Slonem builds his sgraffito texture by scratching through gold oil paint to reveal the colors beneath a technique that gives the work an almost archaeological quality, as though the story was always there, waiting to be uncovered.โ

Blue, yellow, and green move together across the surface, conjuring the illusion of light reflecting off water. Through layers of pigmented wax, Moore builds depth and luminosity that no other medium quite replicates, color suspended, not painted, each translucent stratum catching light as water does. This abstract dialogue between the elements is a defining thread throughout her work, less a depiction of nature than a distillation of it.โ
