Basin Recreation

Basin Recreation The District is committed to operational excellence, providing top-notch facilities, trails, parks, and programs that inspire lifelong recreational engagement.

Established in 1986, Basin Recreation owns and manages nearly 2,300 acres of open space, has built and/or maintains 170 miles of trails and works with Summit County and state and local organizations on planning and conservation issues. We also operate an 87,000-square foot indoor fieldhouse facility that serves over 265,000 visitors a year. Additionally, Basin Recreation owns and operates several

outdoor park facilities, which include bike parks, a skate park, groomed cross-country trails, sports facilities, ponds, community areas, and dog parks. Finally, the District manages popular recreation programs, fitness classes, camps, and community events that have grown without pause over the last decade to serve the residents in the area.

After decades of conservation, planning, and partnership, the long-awaited Ranch to Ridge trail is nearing completion! Utah Open Lands and Basin Recreation are excited to share this milestone and are jointly asking trail users to exercise caution, particularly as we enter the shoulder season. We ask everyone to use the trail thoughtfully and with respect for the land, wildlife and conservation values it was created to protect. Users are asked to use the designated park-and-ride lot off Kilby Road for trail access and parking, not Ecker Hill Middle School.

Visit https://basinrecreationutah.gov/2026/09/joint-statement-from-utah-open-lands-and-basin-recreation-on-the-nearly-complete-ranch-to-ridge-trail/ to read the full joint statement from Utah Open Lands and Basin Recreation and learn more about the history of Ranch to Ridge and the importance of protecting this special place. And, thank you to Creative Trails for their trail boots on the ground work. We’re looking forward to celebrating this incredible community investment in spring 2027, once the trail has stabilized!

Starting Wednesday, September 2nd,
Run-A-Muk will be closed on weekdays while the trail resurfacing work is underway.

For the first week, the off leash area will be closed Wednesday - Friday and open for the weekend. After that, Run-A-Muk will be closed Monday though Friday and open on weekends until construction is complete.

Crews will be resurfacing approximately 1.5 miles of trail to help reduce damage during winter and muddy conditions to improve long-term durability.

The weekday closures are necessary to help keep trail users safe and allow the contractor to work as efficiently as possible.

There’s not yet an estimated date for full reopening. We’ll share updates as work progresses. Thanks for your patience.

NEW SKILLS TRAIL IS OPEN!

Our new clockwise-only Skills Trail loop at the Trailside Bike Park is officially ready to ride, with beginner-to-intermediate uphill and downhill technical features built to help riders practice, progress, and have some fun along the way.

There are two designated entrances:
• Below the upper pump track
• Above the jump line

Follow the directional signs, ride clockwise, and keep an eye out for other riders as you work your way through the features.

Most importantly: this trail needs tires! The more it gets ridden, the better it will settle in. Come check it out, put some rubber on the dirt, and help us get it dialed in.
