Though we hope to never miss you, we know it happens! Often our hours are “aspirational” due to parenthood and and our start up, mostly a “one man band”affair! Thank you for patience as we grow. Never hesitate to text ahead to check availability or if you arrive and the door is locked. It’s likely Melinda Watters is right around the corner picking up a kid or returning from an errand.

Did you know that today is !! Culture Citizen is located in the original (as far as I understand) Alexander Bicycle Company! See one of his pattonted designs on the shared link from The Bicycle Museum of America who keep one of the few remaining bicycles of Alexander in display! We would love to have one in the shop as a reminder of local history but also a nod to Alexander who knew that utilitarian objects could at times be works of art. Harrison, Walker & Harper

🚲Where Engineering Meets Art 🚲
America 250-Ohio with Ohio Creates:

Innovation isn’t always driven by function alone—sometimes, it’s guided by vision, creativity, and a willingness to design something simply because it’s beautiful. The Rocket Bicycle by Alexander Specialty Manufacturing is a striking blend of innovation and artistic design. Created in 1939 by inventor John R. Alexander, its most distinctive feature—a teardrop-shaped frame—was intentionally “ornamental,” prioritizing visual impact over function.
The Rocket stood apart as a bold expression of creativity in an era focused on utility. Due to wartime material shortages, limited demand, and a fire in Alexander’s shop, very few survive today.
More than a bicycle, the Rocket is a reminder that art can exist in everyday objects—turning transportation into a statement of imagination and design.

We have 2 (maybe 1) more spots for our six week summer course starting next Tuesday June 2 evening from 6:30- 8:30 (more info and booking link in comments).

Here is a review from our spring course:

"What were you nervous or unsure about before coming?"

I couldn’t be happier that I joined this class. Before starting, I was a bit nervous about the logistics—mostly finding the studio and making sure I had the right materials. As a new student, I really appreciated that Melinda walked us through exactly what we needed during the first session. It saved me from wasting money on the wrong supplies and immediately put my mind at ease. The location was also easy to find and the studio was very inviting.

"What did you enjoy most?"

The highlight for me has been the atmosphere! There is an immediate sense of camaraderie in the studio; I felt a natural ease with Melinda right away. The "cozy vibe" makes it the perfect weekly escape and something I truly look forward to on my calendar. I took this class with a friend, and it was a perfect place for us to spend time together as well.

"Did anything shift in how you see your own creativity/art?"

This class has shifted how I approach my own creativity. I used to choose subjects simply because they looked "pretty," but here, we worked from a poem. The process of trying to convey a specific feeling from the text—rather than just painting an image—was a brand-new and deeply rewarding experience for me.

If you are looking for a welcoming environment to grow as an artist and think about your work in new ways, I can't recommend Culture Citizen enough!”
