Several of our staff members had the amazing opportunity to attend this year’s AZA (The Association of Zoos and Aquariums) annual conference that was held in Portland, Oregon. Recognized as one of the largest zoological and aquarium professional events in the world, this conference brings together thousands of industry professionals to share new scientific findings, advancements in animal welfare, and educational strategies.

Among hundreds of presentations and panels, our very own Melissa Czinn was a featured speaker on the “Small Institution Lessons, Collaborations, and Achievements in Field Conservation” panel! As our Head of Education and Conservation, her session highlighted how smaller organizations can maximize their resources to partake in successful conservation programs and build meaningful community partnerships.

We are proud of Melissa for representing our organization and the rest of the staff for bringing back innovative ideas to advance our zoo’s mission!

Fall is here, our Red Wolves have been taking advantage of the cooler weather! 🍂 Our two wolves are best seen on cool days early in the morning and late in the afternoon, which is when this species is naturally most active.

Red Wolves are critically endangered, with only a small population remaining in the wild. The rest are being housed under human care in facilities across the country. We are proud to be one of those facilities that is part of the AZA SAFE Red Wolf Recovery Program! Zoos play an essential role in helping save endangered species from extinction and inspiring the public to care and to conserve the natural world.

You can learn more about the Red Wolf Recovery Program by visiting www.fws.gov/project/red-wolf-recovery-program
