Our October 15 sing-along had an international and inclusive feel as we celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month (ending Oct. 15) and Italian American Heritage Day (entire month of October) at Musical Memory Singers. Songs honoring Hispanic heritage included new-to-us "I Feel Pretty" and "La Bamba." Jolene demonstrated some traditional percussion instruments on "Girl from Ipanema" and "Lemon Tree." On the Italian side, we sang songs recorded by Dean Martin and Luciano Pavarotti.
Stay tuned for October 22, when our next sing-along will feature a hayride theme. That will be a good day to wear your farm-themed clothing or accessories!

You only get one 9th Anniversary, and at Musical Memory Singers on October 8, we made the most of ours. With a “There’s No Business Like Show Business” theme, we sang songs from movie musicals, including The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and more. Added attractions included a beautiful buffet of refreshments, a "mocktail" toast to our 2025-26 contributors, and a festive backdrop, along with props, for taking photos. Thanks to the Pantego Lions Club for 9 great years in the perfect spot. Don't wait until the next anniversary to come back!

Musical Memory Singers was one of dozens of exhibitors at the cowboy-themed 2026 Aging Well Expo in Arlington on October 7. It was a bustling, knowledge-packed event. We told lots of people about Musical Memory Singers, and hope to see some of them singing with us soon.

"It's Fall, "Y'all!" was the October 1 theme at Musical Memory Singers, and the weather cooperated. On a rainy day with temperature in the 70s, we enjoyed singing “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning,” "The Autumn Leaves,” and “If Ever I Would Leave You,” among others. Take a peek at the photos and videos from today's sing-along.
Come back on October 8 to celebrate the 9th anniversary of Musical Memory Singers, with refreshments and a "There's No Business Like Show Business" sing-along.

“Do You Hear the People Sing?” was the theme of the fun Musical Memory Singers sing-along on September 24, 2026, which featured popular hits, folk songs, big band songs, show tunes, and even a lullaby. We welcomed two new visitors, and Nesha returned to lead stretch time after some time away. Some of our singers tried doing a seated umbrella parade during "Singin' In the Rain," and it worked just as well. Between songs, somehow we transitioned from talking about Dr. Pepper (with a jingle written by Barry Manilow, of "I Write the Songs"), to Coca-Cola, as Pauline shared the origin story for "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing." We'll sing again on October 1, and on October 8 we will celebrate our 9th anniversary. Come every week and see what it's all about. See some highlights below.

At Musical Memory Singers on Sept. 17, we sang songs evoking fond memories. The theme was "Try To Remember the Kind of September," and "Try To Remember" was only one of 15 songs we sang together. We started with some moon-related songs, and Jolene wanted us to be sure to remember that Sunday Sept. 19 is International Observe the Moon Night 2026. Some highlights included Tom leading "It Was a Very Good Year," Mary leading "Can't Help Falling in Love," and Jolene and Daryl jointly leading "Back Home Again." We concluded by learning from Tom that generous donors had given checks, cash, and North Texas Giving Day donations that exceeded Musical Memory Singers goal for 2026. Thank you to those who were able to share this year!

September 17 is here! It's the final day of North Texas Giving Day for 2026. Thanks to all of those who have already given to Musical Memory Singers and to other DFW nonprofits that may be dear to your heart, whether through the NTGD platform or in another way. We appreciate your generosity! If you intended to give and the time has been slip-slidin' away, it's not too late. The link is below.

North Texas Giving Day is Communities Foundation of Texas’ largest community investment initiative. 100% of each donation goes to nonprofits.

"Dancing in September" was the Musical Memory Singers theme on September 10, when we turned the calendar page to welcome September. We sang songs that inspired dancing, plus songs that mentioned September, crossing musical decades and styles. Jolene recruited guest leaders Tom ("September Song") and Pauline ("The Locomotion"). Paul got mellow on the piano with "Harvest Moon" and "September Morn." We'll be back on September 17 for more singing and friendship.

At Musical Memory Singers on Sept. 3, we enjoyed singing the "Labor Day Jamboree" songs, but the topic also sparked a lot of interesting conversation. With "I've Been Working on the Railroad," Ray commented that his father had worked for 70 years for Southern Pacific Railroad. Marcia, Tom, Janet, and Becky were among others who had parents, grandparents, or other relatives who were railroad employees. Moving on "Working in a Coal Mine," several people had comments about their connections to coal mines and other mining operations. Jolene had attended a college in which many of her classmates were affected in some way by the mining industry. Sue had even worked for a coal mining company. When we got to "Wichita Lineman," Mary said the movie "Life on the Line," starring John Travolta, paints a vivid picture of what it is like to do that type of work. We sang "9 to 5," and many of us were still thinking about Dolly Parton so soon after her death. Janet said she had attended a TV show event in Hendersonville, Tennessee, and had met Dolly there.

We'll be singing together again next week, on September 10. Come see what it's all about!
