Just 6 more blocks to go!

Fabrics are mostly from my scraps or stash - I’m all about trying to use what I have. Only a few fat quarters from my Mom, my recent TN trip, and some end of bolt/strips from Missouri Star Quilt (a trip I don’t think I even posted about yet 😅).

My favorite part about making a scrappy quilt: remembering all the other quilts or projects I made before with the same fabrics. 🩵

For Stephanie 💜

I originally made this Friendship Star Quilt for a really great friend and coworker, Stephanie Taylor. Unfortunately, she passed away unexpectedly in May before I was able to give it to her.

I only just met her last summer when we started sharing a cubicle together at work. We became quick friends- sharing old stories, making jokes and even having a few heart to hearts. We also called each other “cellmates” because we both shared that kind of sarcastic humor. 😆

Although we only knew each other a short time, she really made a huge impact on my life. I miss her often, and regularly go to text her and quickly realize she’s no longer there.

However, I am so glad that I was able to gift the quilt to Stephanie’s wonderful daughter, Kimmie, later in July. I wish we could’ve met under different circumstances but I am so grateful to have met her and see so much of Stephanie in her. 🐻

Here’s to all the coworkers who are so much more than just a coworker. 🍻

Let me introduce my quilted cornstalks! 🌽

I finished this a few weeks ago and was waiting on sharing until I took more formal/fancy shots… which I never got around to doing. So this is me, sharing it as-is because I am excited to share the cool thing I made.

I had the Tula Pink charm pack for a while and knew it would go great with the Kona Chartreuse but wasn’t quite sure what to make with it. After some internet searching, I liked the chevron or herringbone look with HSTs. I essentially started laying out HSTs and playing with them and quickly realized in a herringbone-ish pattern, I actually saw them more as cornstalks and just fell in love with the idea!

For those of you that don’t know: my dad and his side of the family are all farmers. One of the (many) things I miss most about not living near home anymore is the fresh sweet corn 🌽 my family puts up every summer. The. Absolute. Best.

But also, please admire Grayton 🦊 admiring the quilt! 😆

Happiest 16th birthday, to my littlest, sassiest chihuahua princess, Belvidere! 💖

I finally got around to making her a matching quilted vest to my quilt coat I finished last year. I even had so much leftover from my coat, I made her a matching mini dog quilt too!

I created my own pattern for the vest, after a few not-quite-right templates. It’s a bit wonky but cute! 😉 I opted for a blanket stitch around the edge, because ain’t nobody got time to bind this tiny thing! 😅 To fasten the front, I found some cute mismatched buttons in my stash and sewed on small elastic hair ties.

I hope she loves being a cool teenager, matching her mommy in quilted outfits. 😆

“A Dog Would”

For my first entry in a Quilt Show, I wanted to follow the theme “I must have flowers, always and always.” The Dogwood Quilt by Pear Tree Designs (Lindsey Partridge) spoke to me – both in design and in meaning. I love that it has a bit more modern feel and the curves were a nice challenge.

The Dogwood is also the state flower (and tree) of my home state, Virginia. It is even symbolic in Christianity for new beginnings, as it is believed that Jesus’s cross was made out of Dogwood.

Lastly, I found the name can be a cute play on words related to my passion for dogs and their unwavering love and zest for life. Who would love you no matter what? A Dog Would. Who would comfort you when you’re feeling down? A Dog Would. Who would remind you to go for a walk and stop & smell the roses? A Dog Would. 💙

My quilts finally made it to California for Amanda’s .sewn quilt drive for the recent devastating wildfires. ❤️‍🩹

I mailed them off in the middle of January and with the random ❄️ we had here in Florida, I think they got lost in sauce for a little bit - but super thankful they made it safely!

Donating a quilt gives me an extra special feeling. Knowing that it will bring comfort to someone in need is so heartwarming. 🩷 My continued thoughts and prayers go out to those suffering from these wildfires and so many other recent natural disasters around the world.

Sending off these quilts, also gives me a chance to reminisce. It’s brings back so many memories of what I was doing and where I was at while I was making them.

- Endeavor Quilt, pattern by : the quilt top was graciously given to me with backing fabric by Shelby to finish and one day donate back in 2023. Better late than never!

- Hum a Few Bars Quilt, pattern by : was my very first pattern tester experience! I started it in Florida when we were stationed here in 2021 but actually finished it out in California. So it’s technically been from FL to CA twice!

- Launch Status Check Quilt, pattern by : was my first quilt I started in California! I remember buying the fabric in cute quilt shop in Arizona on our move to the west coast. I started to sew it in our house completely empty before our household goods had arrived. 😆

Who else is glad January is finally over? 🙌

Quilting the Dogwood quilt definitely has me dreaming of Spring 🌼 time and warm weather. ☀️

Just a few more weeks and my quilt should be hung up in my very first quilt show. ☺️

Saturdays are for Sewing 🧵😎

I haven’t spent all day sewing in along time, but I did today and it was so nice! 🙌 Here’s a peek at some of the progress I made on my Dogwood Quilt. Believe it or not but I actually finished the whole top today!

Here’s to hoping I can keep my momentum so I can submit this to the local quilt show by mid February. 🤞🏽

I finished my Dad’s puff quilt in the (Saint) Nick of time! 🎅 Popped it in the mail 📦 and it made it from FL to VA a few days before Christmas! 😅

Like my last puff quilt, I used fabric scraps with polyfil to stuff the puffs. This gave it a weighted feel - 8.5 pounds to be exact! I used the same pattern from Lo and Behold Stitchery, but added a few extra rows to the large throw size.

All the fabric squares on the quilt top came from my stash, my mom’s stash, and two of my dad’s shirts. The plane ✈️ I appliquéd on the back of the quilt is also from one of my Dad’s shirts too. I only had to purchase the backing fabric and some polyfil, so I’d consider this a pretty good stash buster. 🙌

Pretty sure Dad likes it. ☺️

That took foreverrrr! Two nearly full days to puff and sew all 22 rows together to form the quilt top.

Needless to say, it’s not getting in the mail tomorrow. I don’t think I can physically sew another stitch tonight. 😵‍💫

So basting and quilting will have to wait until after work this week. Still hoping I can finish it and it will magically make it in time for Christmas. 😬
