Sure, the fair might be over—but the good continues. ❤️

This picture was taken Friday night. Just one week earlier, in this same arena at the Marion County Fair, dirt was flying, cars were crashing, and the crowd was cheering at the Marion County Fair Demolition Derby. But this past Friday night, there was a different kind of horsepower in the arena: Ethan's Rodeo!

The dollars generated through the Marion County Demolition Derby are possible because great volunteers step up and give their time to make the event happen. And this year, those volunteers are helping determine where some of the profits go.

That is the beauty of the Marion County Fair. For some groups, arena events and concession stands help fund the great things they make happen in our community.

And behind all of it are people who continually give something even more valuable than money:

Their time.

The Weiman family, who puts on Ethan’s Rodeo in memory of their son to raise money for childhood cancer research, understands that firsthand. They not only give back through Ethan’s Rodeo—they also gave their time by volunteering during the Demolition Derby.

And a HUGE shoutout to Rodney and Ginny Kuntemeyer for recruiting the incredible volunteers who sat at the gates all night during the Demolition Derby. Their willingness to give their time helped make the event possible—and helped create the opportunity for gifts like this one to be made from the event’s profits.

This is what happens when a community shows up.

Volunteers give their time. Events generate support. And that support turns into good. ❤️

Our friends at Beat Childhood Cancer have been taking the money we raise and doing work that is making a difference and changing outcomes for neuroblastoma families now and in the future.

Ethan Weiman traded his red cowboy hat for a black one partway through his fight with neuroblastoma. He wore it with pride through radiation, isolation, and every hospital stay that followed.

Ethan's Rodeo, August 14 and 15 in Palmyra, Missouri, carries his name and his love of horses into a weekend built entirely around funding better options for kids like him.

Today, his family is keeping that cowboy spirit alive by riding for kids with neuroblastoma.

Every dollar raised supports research focused on improving outcomes for children facing this disease. While today's treatments can be incredibly difficult, there is hope. Together, we can help fund research that increases survival rates and leads to safer, more effective therapies for the next generation of children.

It's not too late to attend, or to support the event by making a donation or purchasing event merchandise.
