In the summer of 2020, when stages went dark and the world came to a standstill, chose to move forward.
With the unwavering support of board member D’Re Anderson Stergios DRe Stergios and her husband, Jerry Stergios, the Summer Apprenticeship continued against all odds. On the Stergios family property, a stage was built beneath the open sky, and Thelma’s Garden blossomed once again as artists gathered to create, train, and perform.
Many questioned the decision. Others quietly celebrated the resilience of the arts.
What emerged was a powerful reminder that dance is more than performance—it is connection, expression, community, and hope.
Dance was essential then.
