We hate that we have to share this, but we want our community to be aware — and if there is any chance someone can help us recover our LGD puppies before they end up in a dangerous situation, we are asking for it.
We have been trying to rehome several valuable Turkish Kangal/Boz livestock guardian dog puppies. Craigslist and Facebook make this extremely difficult, and despite boosting posts and receiving a lot of interest, we were not able to finalize a placement.
Because of this experience, we want to warn others:
If you post livestock or any animals online, do NOT disclose your location.
Our farm is a vacation destination, so our location is publicly available. That made us vulnerable.
If someone asks for additional photos or videos, do not send them.
Arrange to meet in person instead of giving strangers more information about your property layout or where your animals are kept.
There is also a Zelle scam circulating on Craigslist. Someone contacts you, claims they’ve sent payment, then asks for your email so they can send a fake message saying your account needs an “upgrade fee” of $300. They attempted this with our business account. It is a coordinated scam.
Unfortunately, because our location is publicly known due to being a farm stay, campground, RV park, and petting zoo, we were targeted. Our two remaining LGD puppies were stolen from our property on Saturday, 4/4.
We have a list of possible suspects, but Anderson County Sheriff’s Office is understaffed and overwhelmed. Crimes like this are often not treated as a priority, even though for farmers, ranchers, and homesteaders, the loss of working dogs is devastating and directly impacts the safety of our herds and flocks.
We have since doubled our cameras, added motion sensors with phone alerts, and installed both indoor and outdoor siren alarms. We will not be caught off guard again.
We also know that stolen livestock and working dogs are often moved through private groups, back channels, and word of mouth. If you see these puppies or hear anything, please contact us. Even the smallest detail could help.
If you cannot help directly, please share this post so others can be aware of the risks and hopefully prevent more theft, more loss, and more heartache.
Share this and let's get these M'fers.
