St Johns River Center The St. John’s River Center showcases the unique and varied ecosystems of the St. John’s River. John’s River as well as its unique history, culture, and commerce.

Visitors can participate in group tours or self-guided visits. Staff-led programs, offered by appointment, include topics on:

natural history of the area;
William Bartram’s travels in Palatka and Putnam County;
19th century Steamboat trade;
commerce and industry of the River;
types of wetlands and their importance; and
plants and Animals of the River
Field trip programs are available for public a

nd private schools, youth groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and home school groups. Reservations are required. Hours of Operation:

Some background on the Featured Artist: Kris Gorman

Kris Gorman grew up in Wray, Colorado where she studied stain glass and painting. She received the Night Owl Art Scholarship and went to Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, where she received her degree in Fine Art and Graphic design. Kris then went to the University of New Mexico where she obtained a Post-BA in Art Education K-12. She taught art in middle school and at the Albuquerque Art Museum.

She has exhibited her jewelry at Panache Gallery, Cherry Creek North, Denver, Co, Davis Art Gallery, Columbia, Mo. 3-D ceiling sculptures, watercolors, and acrylics panels. Also, she exhibited for many years at the Matrix gallery in Albuquerque.

Her work is focused on plant life, landscapes, architecture and animals. She enjoys using different mediums, conquering new techniques and subjects. Kris lives for the meditative properties of creating art to make life a more enjoyable environment in which to inhabit.
