Charles J. Guiteau was a college dropout who earned the nickname “Charles Gitout” while he participated in the Oneida Community, a utopian religious society. Infamously deranged, Guiteau’s interests in life spanned many avenues - the most notable being his personally believed hand in President Garfield’s election win. Guiteau believed that due to his assistance, he should be granted consulship for Paris, which was denied by the Secretary of State stating, "Never speak to me again on the Paris consulship as long as you live!“
As a result, Guiteau decided to assassinate Garfield, claiming he was instructed by God to “remove” him. After his successful assassination, he was sentenced to death and was hanged five months later.

Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme was the it-girl in Santa Monica, California until she was rendered homeless after dropping out of college and being kicked out of her childhood home by her father. She was quickly sucked into Charles Manson’s cult when he wooed her on the street. After years of involvement with the cult, Fromme attempted to assassinate Gerald Ford. Following the attempt, Fromme claimed she had no real intention of killing him but rather aimed to bring awareness to the state of the environment, emphasizing the need to hand the power over to Charles Manson in order to save everyone and everything. She was sentenced to life in prison and was released on parole in 2009. She claims that she is still in love with Charles Manson today.

John Hinckley Jr. was an aspiring songwriter who found himself enamored with 12-year-old Jodie Foster after watching the film “Taxi Driver” - a film in which the main character plots to assassinate a presidential candidate. Due to this, Hinckley determined that an act of this caliber would be the best way to capture Jodie Foster’s attention, respect, more importantly adoration. Despite attempts at mental rehabilitation, Hinckley attempted to assassinate both Jimmy Carter (he was caught and arrested with a firearm charge before he could attempt) and Ronald Reagan, who he shot at 6 times. After being found not guilty by reason of insanity, an extremely rare occurrence for it’s time, Hinckley was sent to psychiatric care. In 2016, he was released as he was determined to no longer pose a threat to himself or others. Today, he writes music and creates art.

John Wilkes Booth made his stage debut as an actor at the age of 17 following in the footsteps of his father who was a British Shakespearean actor. His favorite role he played was Brutus, the slayer of the tyrant. He was active in the Know-Nothings, an anti-immigrant political party throughout his teen years. As the Civil War came about, he developed a pro-slavery and anti-abolitionist mindset, all the while growing a hatred towards President Abraham Lincoln. This resulted in his choice to assassinate him with one shot to the head while he watched a play.

Leon Czogolsz was a Polish-American laborer whose exposure to strikes, economic turmoil, and social turbulence drove him to become part of a radical socialist group called Sila Club. He was heavily influenced by anarchist Emma Goldman and felt that the wealthy take advantage of the poor in order to grow their riches, and he felt this was due to the government structure. To make a statement, he shot at President William McKinley who died 8 days later due to an infection.
