Conversational thoughts I feel I’ve lived a few and experienced all through, teaching music students in the past 18 years… Let me know in the comments, your thoughts and opinion.

1. (prodigy.)
They get early access and go far, fast.
They're the youngest person on the biggest stages... until they aren't. At some point, the novelty wears off, and they have to fend for themselves like everyone else.

2. (The slow-and-steady hard worker.)
This person has "realistic expectations." They're often surprised - usually much later — to discover they're just as capable of leading the band as the prodigy ever was.

3. (The popular one.)
They figure out how to be likable and get a lot of opportunities. Until a shift happens - a life change, a scene change, burnout - and the old momentum doesn't carry them anymore.

4. (The late starter.)
After years of putting it off, they finally begin - often annoyed at themselves. They define themselves as "not a pro." And then, 10-15 years later, they've developed enough skill that they might as well be leading the band.
