Ready, set, sew! 🧵

Our annual Quilt Camps kicked off this week, offering kids ages 7-17 the opportunity to learn how to quilt, which, as many of you know, also teaches them technical skills, creativity, math, problem solving, patience and, as demonstrated here, attention to detail. This week these kids in Beginner I and II will work on basics like machine piecing, ironing and finishing the quilt.

So amazing to see these young quilters pick their fabrics, plan their blocks and get going on the machines. Stay tuned. Later in the week we'll share their finished quilts! 🤩

🐍 Why a “Space Snake?”

According to Tula Pink, it wasn't originally a snake slithering through the cosmos — but then she added stars, a moon and Saturn because "anything is 10% cooler in space."

Honestly, fair enough. 🚀

Also shown is the original fabric Tula designed that is the foundation of her sweet, eyelash-flaunting space snake.

Sssstop by to ssssee “Space Snake” and Tula’s exhibition, “Twenty Years of Tula Pink,” which runs through September 15. Get tickets here: https://bit.ly/NQMtickets

See a Royal Dansk tin. Go home with a Royal Dansk tin. 😋

Be one of the first 200 museum visitors–paid admission ticket holders or Friends of the Museum–on NATIONAL SEWING MACHINE DAY (Saturday, June 13), and you'll be gifted either a Royal Dansk Garden Cookie Collection 10.6 oz tin or Danish Butter Cookies 12 oz tin!

Royal Dansk–sponsor of our New Quilts from an Old Favorite exhibition–goes hand in hand with quilting. In fact, with this year's NQOF "Food" theme, quilter J Drennan Sewing was inspired by memories of her mom and grandmother storing their sewing supplies in Royal Dansk cookie tins–and of course, enjoying the cookies. She captures that moment so perfectly in her quilt "Grandmother's Sewing Kit" that our judges awarded her entry the top prize.

See it (and enjoy the cookies) for yourself. Get your tickets here: https://bit.ly/NQMtickets

✨ Spotlighting legacy NQOF quilter Leslie Johnson ✨

Leslie’s ingenuity and artistry have produced work selected for numerous New Quilts From An Old Favorite exhibitions over the years. Each quilt is more than a work of art — it’s a story, thoughtfully stitched and beautifully told.

In her piece “Whispers of the Harvest Season” for this year’s food-themed challenge, she captures everyday beauty and the shifting scenes of fall – from backyard garden harvests and pumpkin patch joy to autumn’s rich colors as cooler-weather crops thrive and leaves drift across the landscape. 🌾🍂

We’re continually inspired by her vision and can’t wait to see what she creates next!

See the NQOF Exhibition, sponsored by Royal Dansk, through July 28. Get tickets here: https://bit.ly/NQMtickets

🗡️ "Macbeth's Treachery"- 2022, Theme: Shakespeare

Thank you Baptist Health Paducah for supporting our mission – and your recent visit! 💙

We’re incredibly grateful for their sponsorship of “And Now I Know My ABCs!,” an exhibition of Janet Stone's alphabet quilt series, which features multiple award winners and is on view through September 22.

The showcase brings the alphabet to life through 26 quilted works created between 2008 and 2024, blending typography, creativity and incredible craftsmanship. We’re thankful for partners like Baptist Health Paducah who help bring inspiring exhibitions and creative experiences to our community.
