These are some new watercolor hues from and I just think the granulation is so pretty! I get inspired by color and find that I can be more present in the painting process when I'm so focused on watching what the color is going to surprise me with next.

Framing a watercolor painting under glass can often feel like an obstacle. The glass forms a barrier to the painting, is easily damaged and is an expensive process requiring professional skill.

Over the years I've developed a method for mounting watercolor paintings on wood panel and sealing them so that they are protected while still holding the integrity of the paper surface. I wouldn't like my watercolor paintings to be glossy like a varnished oil painting, so finding a way to seal that still looked like watercolor was really important to me. You can compare the two paintings in the photo, the one on the left is a full sheet of watercolor mounted on panel, and the one on the right is under glass.

Thankful. Today is Thanksgiving here in Canada and I'm not going to lie, we're in the middle of some pretty hard things. And some pretty beautiful things. Sometimes thankful is a balancing act.

One thing I think about beauty is that it has always been God's reminder that there is hope. Another sunrise, another season, another new beginning. I think about that a lot.

Autumn is my favourite season. The quality of the light, the colour and the contrasts are a dream to paint.

When I lived in the tropics, one of the things we missed the most was the suspension of seasonal variation. It was just green all the time, and it made it feel hard to mark the passing of time. And maybe here in northern Canada, the passing of time feels more significant or urgent, each leaf that falls means we're closer to winter.

I'm thankful for seasons, seasons of change, seasons of growth, hard seasons that will pass, as every season does, making room for new beginnings.
