Turns out you can say a lot with a few lines. Finding freedom to sketch in my paintings has been so exciting for me. I love the way I can create a shape with a little bit of line, give it a name and it comes to life, just like the cat hiding in this painting sketch from Greece.
I've created a 10-minute drawing lesson as a part of the Bundles for Good June Drawing Challenge. Drawing like a painter is not about accuracy, it's about creating something that supports the development of the painting you want to create. Learning those skills can make your painting stronger, full of life and more confident.

The 28-day challenge is packed with drawing lessons to help you draw more confidently and it's available until May 27th for the early bird price of just $39.

Watching paint flow is such an important part of watercolour painting. You don't want to miss the magic. I often paint just to experience colour and flow and sometimes the painting paints itself.

We tested out the trails this week. Some spots were a little challenging still with the deep snow we had this year, but it's so nice to get out and watch the landscape filtered through the branches once again. I love seeing tree branches as a kind of filter through which I view the world.

Spring seems to have been a long time coming. Finally, the snow is starting to melt in the forest and I'm eager to get back out walking again.
My favorite paintings from the last year or so are all inspired by trees, forest, wild growth. I'm hoping to pull a collection together and make available for sale soon.

I saw this photo yesterday on Browns Socialhouse What a beautiful photo of my favorite restaurant! I had to try painting something inspired by the pattern, the warmth, the lighting, and those rich beautiful darks.
This kind of study is really just a drill for me and abstracting and simplifying an image. When I see something that triggers my inspiration, I don't always know what it is that I'm responding to. Painting helps me think about how I connect with the world visually.

Just over here watching the paint. It's slow flow that makes some of these textures possible, no rushing allowed.

I learned so much this year as I worked on developing Watercolor Mastery Intuitive Colour. To teach is to spend a lot of time asking, "Why?"

Why teaches, and "why" also affirms. I didn't have to feel like my intuitive approach to using colour has short-changed me as an artist, it's actually given me a unique personal voice and broadened my abilities in ways that a more academic approach could have only speculated about.

As I close this course in a few hours, I have two hopes:
1. That the concepts I've built my art on and communicate in the course come through clearly and unapologetically.

2. That the people who need this course, who are looking for support in making this transition to a more confident, intuitive, and independent style will hear about the course and enroll. I've run ads on this course for the first time and I get a lot of spam because of it, but if even just a few people who wouldn't have heard about it otherwise sign up and find their art empowered, it will be worth it.
Doors are open for a few more hours. Message me if you'd like the link to join.

Doesn't this sound like a better truth to believe than "watercolor is the hardest medium?"
And isn't it wonderful to paint from that foundation?
Watercolor Mastery Intuitive Colour is closing for enrollment tomorrow. If you're craving a more confident approach to colour handling, that's the foundation this course is designed to create.
Message me and I'll send you the link to join!
