🌀 Hurricane Precautions & Preparedness
Friends, don’t wait until the shelves are empty to get prepared. Take a little time now to make sure your household is ready.
✅ Stock your supplies: Have at least seven days of nonperishable food, medications and essentials. Store one gallon of water per person, per day, for seven days. Include extra supplies for pets.
✅ Prepare for power outages: Gather flashlights, batteries, a battery-powered radio and charged power banks. Charge your phones.
✅ Protect important items: Keep IDs, insurance information, emergency contacts and some cash in a waterproof container.
✅ Secure your home: Bring loose outdoor items inside and secure storm shutters before conditions worsen.
✅ Have an evacuation plan: Know your evacuation zone, where you’ll go and how you’ll get there. Include pets and anyone needing extra assistance. Follow evacuation orders.
✅ Stay informed: Follow the National Hurricane Center, National Weather Service Mobile/Pensacola and your county’s emergency management updates.
✅ Use generators safely: Run them outdoors, at least 20 feet from doors, windows and vents. Never operate one inside a home or garage.
✅ Avoid floodwater: Never drive or walk through flooded roads, and stay away from downed power lines.
❤️ Check on family, friends and neighbors, especially older adults and anyone living alone. Make sure they have supplies, transportation and a way to stay in touch.
Be prepared, stay safe and look out for each other.
