We’re highlighting 1 of 3 Artist-in-Residence opportunities! 🌊 The Channel Islands Harbor is home to extraordinary wildlife, recreation, and natural beauty, but it also faces environmental challenges that call for greater community awareness, connection, and stewardship.
For this residency, we’re selecting ONE artist to explore how creativity can help people better understand, appreciate, and protect our coastal ecosystems with the Channel Islands Harbor, while fulfilling the residency’s required deliverables. The selected artist will receive a $10,000 stipend!

🚧🍓 A little creativity is coming to the construction fence!

If you’re driving along Channel Islands Blvd. or Victoria this weekend, keep an eye out for Angela Batoon Angela , who is helping add a little artistic flair to the bright green fence surrounding the future home of Karl’s Karls Erlebnis-Dorf 🍓 .

As many of you know, Fisherman’s Wharf Channel Islands Harbor is being redeveloped into Karl’s—a new strawberry-themed destination bringing retail, dining, entertainment and family-friendly experiences to our community. We’re excited to be working with the Karl’s team as this new chapter takes shape.

Angela is a Ventura County–based multidisciplinary artist and CSU Channel Islands alumna. She previously worked with us on the beautiful mural at the Port Hueneme Library, so we’re thrilled to have another opportunity to collaborate with her.

For now, Angela is bringing some personality to the construction fence by painting Karl’s logos and slogans. Because if a fence is going to be there, it might as well look good! 😉

We’re especially excited to partner with a company that values creativity and believes in supporting local artists and nonprofits. This is a small first step, and we’re looking forward to exploring more opportunities to bring local artists and creative expression to the project as it develops.

So if you see Angela out there this weekend, give her a wave! 👋🎨

This week, we're celebrating what makes the 805 special: community. OPAC is a place where we come together—to experience art, support local artists, celebrate our cultures, give young people a place to create, and make memories together. That's worth investing in.

So for 805 Day, we're growing the OG Society—our crew of monthly supporters who believe OPAC matters.

And because we're the 805, becoming an OG costs just $8.05/month.
