An excerpt from one of our board members who had an to the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego at La Jolla.
“Art For the People: WPA-Era Artwork from the Dijkstra Collection is not the typical, drab 1930’s WPA (Works Progress Administration) exhibit. From the outstanding collection of Sandra and Bram Dijkstra, this exhibit shows WPA-Era art from 1929 to World War II by artists all across the United States including often neglected California artists. The displayed works are not necessarily ones commissioned by the Government’s WPA but, perhaps more engagingly, seem to come from the artists’ personal series. Excellently researched artist information and historical background makes this exhibit highly engrossing and its artists’ concentration on fundamental human concerns and democratic principles makes it eerily reflective of today.”
