Vision Dance Company

Vision Dance Company VDC, with the help of many, has become a unique organization to Miami University with the versatility of dance styles that is completely student run!

Seven Miami University students who shared a love for dance founded Vision Dance Company. The original seven members, Markena Brawner, Maria Cunningham, Carollette Goodman, Rivetta Goodrich, Stephanie Preshon, Minya Smith and LaKeisha Thomas, began performing for different events around campus before deciding to become an official organization. During the spring of 2001 they began publicizing the

impending auditions to the campus in hopes to form a diverse dance group that offered an eclectic array of dance. Approximately 30 girls attended that audition and the group grew to a membership of 22. The group began holding regular technique classes and performed for MUTV and Kwanzaa the following fall. In the winter of 2002, Vision held auditions again, this time forty-five individuals were in attendance for auditions. The company is now at a membership of 27 and still growing. Vision, with the help of many, has become a unique organization to Miami with its broad variety of dance- including ballet, contemporary, hip hop, jazz, latin, lyrical, modern, contemporary, and tap, which it offers to the Miami community. The student-run organization also creates the opportunity for student choreography.
