Reeled Ink

Reeled Ink Gyotaku is a Japanese print making method originated in the mid 1800’s to authenticate a fisherman’s bounty. Nicole presently teaches art and color theory.

Pigment is applied directly to a fish and then pressed with rice paper to reveal its intricacies and anatomical beauty. Nicole Salva holds a master’s degree in fine art and a bachelor’s degree in illustration. Nicole has been civically commissioned and has had several art exhibits that have subsequently earned her numerous awards.

Something new is coming to the shoreline.

For years, Reeled Ink has been about capturing the moment — the fish, the water, the memory of the catch.

Over the past months I’ve been quietly refining the work, expanding the vision, and preparing the next chapter.

Soon I’ll be introducing:

Reeled Ink — original Gyotaku artwork and limited edition prints.
Reeled Ink Co. — coastal-inspired apparel designed for life on and off the water.

Inspired by the Connecticut coastline.
Created by hand.
Rooted in tradition.
