Gyotaku is a Japanese print making method originated in the mid 1800’s to authenticate a fisherman’s bounty. Nicole presently teaches art and color theory.

Pigment is applied directly to a fish and then pressed with rice paper to reveal its intricacies and anatomical beauty. Nicole Salva holds a master’s degree in fine art and a bachelor’s degree in illustration. Nicole has been civically commissioned and has had several art exhibits that have subsequently earned her numerous awards.

THE MONSTER HAS ARRIVED. 🎣🔥

I’m almost finished setting up at the Norwalk Oyster Festival, and I could not be more excited to finally unveil the newest addition to Reeled Ink!

Just three weeks ago, I got the tail from this absolute MONSTER of a tuna caught off Nantucket — weighing in at an incredible 908 LBS and measuring 117 INCHES LONG! 🤯

I’ve been working nonstop to get this piece finished in time to debut it TODAY, and seeing it hanging in my booth makes all those hours worth it. This may very well be my favorite — and best — piece I’ve ever created. ❤️

There’s something pretty amazing about taking a fish of this magnitude and preserving its actual size, texture and story through gyotaku. This isn’t just an image of a tuna tail — this is the impression of the actual 908-pound fish.

I’m so excited to bring Reeled Ink back to the Norwalk Oyster Festival! 🌊🐟 Come find me September 11th–13th and see a collection of my original Gyotaku fish prints, created from REAL fish using the centuries-old Japanese art of fish printing.

I’ll have original artwork, framed reproductions, apparel, stickers & more — including some brand-new pieces I can’t wait for you to see!

There’s something extra special about showing my work by the water, surrounded by the coastal community that inspires so much of what I create. ❤️

🦪🐟 MILFORD — I’M BACK!!! 🐟🦪

The booth is set up, the artwork is out, the sun is shining ☀️ and it is an ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS day here on the Milford Green!!

After missing last year, I cannot tell you how good it feels to have Reeled Ink back on the Green for Fair on the Half Shell at the Milford Oyster Festival! ❤️

I’ve got a booth FULL of my original Gyotaku fish prints, framed artwork, prints, apparel & Reeled Ink gear — and I am READY for a great day!! 🎣🎨

🦪🐟 REELED INK IS BACK ON THE MILFORD GREEN!!! 🐟🦪

I am SO excited to finally say this — Reeled Ink will be back in a booth on the Milford Green this Saturday August 15th for Fair on the Half Shell! 🎨🐟❤️

For anyone who was confused last year (and trust me, you weren’t alone 😂), here’s the scoop…

What we all knew and loved as the daytime portion of the Milford Oyster Festival — the artists, makers, vendors, shopping, food and festivities on the Green — is now being presented separately as Fair on the Half Shell.

The Milford Oyster Festival is still happening, but its focus is now the nighttime music portion. Fair on the Half Shell has stepped in to bring the daytime festival atmosphere back to the Milford Green, including all of us artists and vendors! 🙌

And I could NOT be happier because this has always been my absolute favorite event of the entire year. ❤️

After missing out last year with all the changes and confusion, REELED INK IS FINALLY BACK IN ACTION! 🎣🎨

I’ll have a booth filled with my gyotaku artwork — originals, prints and plenty of Reeled Ink goodies — and I cannot wait to see so many familiar faces again.
