The Moon and the Tide

What occultism and necromancy is this? She sees him rise and surges forward, locked tidally to his pull, frothing and writhing at his arrival. In the daylight, such magic can feel dim and far away, but under the moon, we are secret and laid bare. There is alchemy at work. What ancient spell was cast that she should yearn for him nightly o’er the eons? She is deliciously powerless against his gravity. She gives of her waters freely, deeply.

The Patrons wants to wish the Jayhawk Motorsports team good luck as they head to competition in Detroit this week! The team includes one of our own…Noah Holt (son, nephew, and one of the two amazing men who professionally stretch our paintings!). We were one of the team sponsors, and rather than our brand, we placed a small sticker of the painting “Come to My Window (Him)” on the race car. Doubt any other car is rocking a fine art painting on it! Rock Chalk!!!

EXT. CAFE - THE IDEA COMES TO HER

Sitting alone at a corner cafe, her latte inches from her lips, an idea appeared unexpectedly. A story. A tale that would become her obsession. An alternate reality that half the world would fall in love with. She would always remember where she was and what she felt in that moment. But she would forget the latte.

Study

She was a reflection of her father, speaking wistfully about a time us mortals can’t comprehend. She didn’t just utter facts. She wondered aloud at published papers and lettered experts. I didn’t recognize a single name as she spoke of them with respect and derision alike.

Had I ever known so much about a single subject in my whole life? This was a college lecture from a pre-teen. I shot several amazed glances at my friend. If he saw, he gave no notice, instead nodding along to her dissertation. A person of weaker resolve would have felt inferior, but I was comfortable in my own ignorance.

I left with more questions than retained knowledge, which ought to be the goal of any professor worth her salt. As I drove home in a vehicle powered by the refined molecules of those long dead giants, under a moon shared across the eons, I reveled. Is there anything more beautiful than witnessing an expert at work?

Komorebi

It spooled inside her, as if the particles of light that filtered through the branches knew where her emotions were resting. She was both present and nostalgic. Excitedly peaceful and dreamily awake. In that moment, she wondered if this life was really the heaven so many spoke of.

Wax

He waited until sunset to tear open her love letter. He had been patient, waiting to read her words by candlelight. He was glad he had. For no one wants to melt in the sun, whereas everyone wants to melt in the moonlight.

Passion dripped from her letter, heated his heart, puddled near his feet, then made him solid once more. Mountains and streams separated them, but tonight, in her words, she was with him.
