Around here we like to think Letitia Wright had the original “big idea.” Back in 1888 she imagined a place where the whole town could gather—part theater, part meeting place, part excuse to dress up and leave the house.

The movie drops on Thursday... and then on Friday this live parody takes flight and runs all the way through Monday.

And now?

Party buses are forming.

Ridgway. Telluride. Montrose.

The fellowship is assembling.

The Eagles are unavailable.

Transportation has become our destiny.

If you're sitting there thinking, "I wish I had a ride,"

or

"I wonder if other weird little hobbits from my town are going..."

Then, drop a comment.

Connect with fellow travelers, find your people, organize carpools, form accidental lifelong friendships, or at minimum split gas money like true heroes.

I'll do my best on this dreaded platform to help get everyone connected.

One does not simply drive into Mordor... but apparently one does party bus into this weekend.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but the thought of old-timey popcorn

( from a real popcorn machine ),

a dark theater,

and a cold drink might just be enough to get you through the day.

It works for me on Wednesdays.

Where else can you watch a feature film for $5, enjoy an adult beverage, and have old-timey popcorn, too?

A little escape from the week.

(And yes, we’ve got candy and all the regular movie snacks too.)

We may have accidentally created the perfect two-part quest.

Step 1: Join us Thursday for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring on the big screen. Refresh your memory. Revisit every fellowship moment, every dramatic stare, every suspicious wizard, every "you have my sword" speech.

Step 2: The very next night, the New York theatre company behind Fly, You Fools! arrives at the Wright and attempts the impossible: recreating an entire epic fantasy adventure with three actors, one Foley artist, and what appears to be a dangerously low amount of adult supervision.

This is what scholars call a back-to-back banger.

See the movie Thursday.

Let it settle in,

Then when the live show hits Friday, every scene, sound, and moment is going to absolutely slap.

The simple act of walking through the pink doors of the Wright Opera House pulls you out of everyday life, out of your own head.

You check in at the box office,

head up the curved stairs and find your seats,

the lights dim,

the room quiets,

and for one precious little while,

you’re somewhere else entirely.

And lucky for you, May has something for everyone, including you, theatre lover:

- Family movies ...
- A Local student art show ...
- Two aerial "circlesque" performances (one 21+)
- Live Theater
- And a perfectly paired Lord of the Rings movie night followed by the hilarious fantasy parody: Fly, You Fools!

Oh, and yes we do still have that old timey movie-house popcorn machine that makes the whole place smell like popcorn on movie nights, too.

It's a blues-ey kinda clouday nad rainy day in Ouray, and the perfect weather for an evening with Scott Ibex and Buddy Lane, Tonight @ the Wright.
