Living Letitia’s Dream Since 1888

Around here we like to think Letitia Wright had the original “big idea.” Back in 1888 she imagined a place where the whole town could gather—part theater, part meeting place, part excuse to dress up and leave the house.

In 1909, the Wright Opera House screened its first moving picture, and audiences were presumably thrilled, confused, and only mildly suspicious of the "glowing rectangle."

Now. in 2026, on June 18th, the Ouray International Film Festival will kick it off here againg at the Wright.

We can't be more proud to be part of this epic tradition of films, filmakers, and all around cinematic greatness such as this.

And after all,

Since 1909, the show must have gone on.

Because here we are.

Filling the room with that "glowing rectangle" that changed the world.

Join us for free community favorites like Music Bingo and Trivia Night.

Explore local history through the Evenings of History series, enjoy live performances, visit the OCAA Art Opening, and celebrate the arrival of summer in one of Colorado's most historic venues.

And for the first time, the Wright is now offering guided tours.

On June 27, Tavern & Tours: Ouray History Day will give visitors a chance to step behind the curtain, hear the stories, and explore the history of a building that has been at the center of community life since 1888.

Whether you're looking for a night at the movies, a cultural outing, or just an excuse to get out of the house, there's something happening at the Wright nearly every night this month.

Take a look at the calendar and prioritize those dates!

See you at the Wright.

BREAKING NEWS:

Pete Davis will NOT be able to present the Colorado 150 Film Festival opening ceremonies tomorrow after being called away on an "emergency archaeology" mission.

Given that he was scheduled to introduce Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the timing seems strangely appropriate.

We're sorry to disappoint those looking forward to seeing Pete.

However, the show will go on!

Admission is still just $5, and you can still enjoy an adult beverage and old-timey popcorn from an old-timey popcorn machine while you're watching the big screen.

And remember:

This event is the first of many summer screenings presented in partnership with the Colorado 150 Film Festival, which is taking place statewide this year.

Good luck, Pete.

We hope you get out alive, save the artifact, get the girl, and look good doing it.

In true Colorado style.

:)
