Our Christmas Market family and the Ottawa community have lost a truly special person.
Jim was so much more than a vendor at the Chris Kringle Market. He and his wife became a familiar and beloved part of our community through their chocolate turtles and the little stands you can find in businesses all around town. But as wonderful as their chocolates are, it was Jim himself who left the biggest impression.
Jim was one of those rare people who made you feel like what you said mattered. He always had time to talk, and somehow, he remembered everything. The little details you mentioned in passing, the names of your family members, something you had going on months before, Jim remembered. And the next time he saw you, he would ask about it. Not simply to make conversation, but because he genuinely cared.
He was thoughtful, kind, sincere, and incredibly easy to talk to. Every conversation with Jim felt meaningful because that was simply the kind of person he was. He would even go out of his way to deliver extra chocolates specifically for the kids at the locations of their chocolate stands, always thinking of them and bringing them so much joy.
We were so fortunate to have Jim as part of our Christmas Market, but even more fortunate to have him as part of our community. His absence will be felt far beyond the market, in all of the places and by all of the people whose lives he touched.
Our hearts are with his wife, family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jim, you will be deeply missed. Thank you for the conversations, the kindness, the chocolate turtles, and for always remembering the little things. ❤️
