in Water Village, Ossipee, N.H., the Ossipee Mt. Grange Hall was built by George O’ Bean in 1904. The first-floor originally served as a general store, where locals could purchase eggs, a newspaper, milk, and other early century staples. Meanwhile, the second two floors where owned and operated separately by the Ossipee Mt. Grange Association, a local chapter of the National Grange of the Patrons of Husbandry. Like most Grange Halls speckled throughout the country, the Ossipee Mt. Grange Hall was not exclusively used as an agricultural fraternity, but rather took on many roles as a community hub for social, economic, and political activity. The Brothers and Sisters of the Ossipee Mt. Grange remained active until approximately 1950 when the second-floor was sold to Gerald and Martha McDuffee who had been operating an antique store on the first-floor.
