Bethany Arts Community Bethany Arts Community is a nonprofit multidisciplinary arts organization for all ages and abilities. Recipient of the 2025 Sophia Abeles Arts Education Award.

It is a space and environment where all forms of art can be learned and expressed. About your Instructor:
Doreen Pagano Halsall of Pine Orchard Studio is a paper artist working in watercolor, printmaking and photography. Her artistic approach is working from the natural world exploring plant and wildlife. She is an active exhibiting artist and educator showing her work in the USA and abroad in addition to teaching students of all ages since 1981.

In her watercolor workshops, students will learn to observe while understanding form, composition, color and various watercolor techniques for successful painting.

✨ Bethany Arts Community has been awarded $35,000 from State Assemblymember Dana Levenberg to directly support our youth arts programming. This award is part of $300,000 from funds secured in the most recent state budget, awarded to thirteen organizations in Assembly District 95.

“Bethany Arts Community is tremendously grateful for this incredible $35,000 award in support of our Youth Arts Programming made possible by Assemblymember Dana Levenberg and the New York State Legislature! This much needed funding will support a wide range of Youth Arts Programming at Bethany Arts Community and provide greater access to the arts for youth in our district. BAC Youth Arts programming includes: our annual Teen Arts Residency, Bethany Kids CREATE Saturdays, afterschool workshops, Bethany Kids CREATE Summer program, and our annual community arts festivals. Visual art and music, as different as they may seem, go hand in hand. They are both mediums that provide context as to how artists view the world.

You will be led through brainstorming and sketch exercises before eventually translating your ideas onto a clothing item using fabric paints and fabric markers.

What does it truly mean to be scared? I’M SCARED 2026 is a juried multidisciplinary art show that explores what we try to hide in the dark. This art show invites artists to show us the strange, the bleak, the freaky, and the weird.

🖌️ Intermediate Watercolor Workshop: Landscape Painting
with Instructor Doreen Halsall

Students will build on watercolor painting techniques, including large washes in wet-on-wet and using detail in the glazing method. Students will develop an understanding for use of paint, brushes and paper as well as color mixing, value, blending and composition.

*Prerequisite: Introduction Watercolor Workshop or have any experience with watercolor instruction or self-exploration.
