Join us in welcoming the first cohort of our 2026 Emerging Artist Fellows, Jayna and Gabrielle Deacon!

Our 4th Annual Emerging Artist Fellowship welcomes four artists for 15 weeks each to Bethany. This fellowship provides time, space, and support as emerging artists develop their creative practice, establish professional relationships, and expand their artistic networks.

✨ Jayna Dias ✨ is a Senegalese-American visual artist and performer that creates works rooted in the complexity of the Black diaspora. Through drawings, paintings, and the body, Dias creates visual exemplifications of the intricacy of Black identity, Western colonialism’s intervention on it, and how deconstruction can be a powerful tool in reasserting it. Her work investigates themes of misogynoir, cultural hybridity, and fetishization channeled through lived experiences, family lineage, and academic research. Unstable compositions, expressionistic figures, boisterous colors, and found materials are all utilized in her practice to stage invitations for viewers to engage with the underrepresented themes she depicts. Above all, Dias’ practice is about visibility.

✨ Gabrielle Deacon ✨ is a studio artist and illustrator based in Appalachian Ohio. Her work revolves around social critiques of her experiences, utilizing mixed media in order to discuss a range of subjects from the trauma of digitalization to the food service industry. These experiences are not only her own but belong to many, and it is her intention to connect with community and viewers
through research and visual exploration.

This fellowship is generously supported by The New York Community Trust – Westchester.

Community Post! 🐝

Celebrate the remarkable story of how a community learned to care for its own.

From Spiritual Care to Modern Care:
How Ossining Learned to Heal Itself

📅 Thursday, June 11, 7PM
🏥 at Open Door’s new home (2 Church Street, Ossining)
🎟️ Admission is free, and all are welcome

REGISTER HERE: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/ev/reg/fh4v736/lp/05bf1240-dcfc-43ed-9ca9-78284cc525b6

Through powerful storytelling and live performances by local actors, the program will trace the journey from early spiritual care and home remedies to the creation of modern community health services. Along the way, it will honor the individuals and moments that shaped this legacy of care, including the founding and growth of Open Door Care Network.

This event is a meaningful way to celebrate both our nation’s 250th anniversary and Open Door’s half century of service. Healing has always been strongest when communities come together with compassion and purpose.

This April, Raja Feather Kelly and the feath3r theory joined us in residence for three weeks. Each residency group that comes through Bethany is unique. These artists were fiercely kind, generous, focused, supportive of one another and the values we hold at Bethany, and just so joyful. We loved hosting you.
