Got My Wings, featuring Westchester Ballet Company, premiers today, Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 4 pm. Register for this free webinar at https://bethanyarts.org/calendar/got-my-wings/.
Got My Wings is a new work by musician and composer Daniel Blake, choreographed by Todd Hall and Tomiko Magario, featuring eleven of WBC’s senior company dancers. Mr. Blake’s musical composition is inspired by the writings of Jarvis Jay Masters, a Buddhist practitioner who has been incarcerated and on death row in San Quentin, CA for over four decades for a crime he did not commit (read more at www.freejarvis.org). The central questioning theme of the piece is, “where do we find our freedom?” with the purpose of shining a light on the subject of prison reform and advocacy, and how creative art, education, and spiritual mentorship can make a pivotal difference in the lives of incarcerated people.

This project began in 2021 with Daniel Blake’s score and collaboration with Todd Hall and the support of Bethany Arts Community. Daniel and Todd began working with WBC dancers in early November 2021, building out choreography over approximately 20 hours of rehearsals. Tomiko Magario joined the project in January, working with the dancers to finalize pieces of the ballet to complete the story’s triptych. The project premieres on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 4 pm via a broadcast from Bethany Arts Community. This project is part of Bethany Arts Community’s 2022 “Season of Justice” and funded by the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by Arts Westchester.

2022 SPRING REPERTOIRE AUDITIONS (for current company dancers)
Saturday, Jan. 8 at Logrea Dance Academy
12:30-2:30—Senior Company
2:30-3:30—Senior Coryphée
3:30-4:30—Senior Company Apprentice, Junior Intermediate, and Junior Company
Please note that not all dancers at the Junior Intermediate or Junior Company levels will necessarily be cast in the Spring Repertoire. Nonetheless, they are encouraged to participate in the auditions.
Pre-registration is required by Friday, January 7, 2022. Visit the audition & rehearsal page on the WBC website.
Please re-visit the 2021-22 Dancer Agreement regarding volunteer hours and other important Spring Repertoire details. The first three rehearsals for Spring Repertoire roles are mandatory, meaning that a dancer will lose his/her role if a mandatory rehearsal is missed. After the mandatory rehearsal period, a dancer may miss no more than three rehearsals, and all such absences must be cleared in advance and in writing following the same protocols for the Nutcracker. All rehearsals during performance week are also mandatory. Dancer will miss one day of school for dress rehearsal.
Covid-19 Vaccination Protocols
WBC's Spring Repertoire is traditionally performed as the second act following the LDA Spring Concert. While we are waiting on details from our venue, it is reasonable to assume that dancers who are vaccine-eligible will be required to be vaccinated (and boosted where applicable) to participate.
Please contact us ASAP at [email protected] if your dancer has any upcoming conflicts on Saturdays or Sundays that might impact their upcoming WBC audition or their weekend rehearsal schedule going forward.
Please send any general questions to [email protected] and include your dancer's name in the subject line.
Beat the holiday rush and get your tickets to Westchester Ballet Company's Nutcracker at the fabulous Lehman Center for the Performing Arts. Best-priced tickets are available directly from the box office at (718) 960-8833.
Community outreach is central to WBC's mission. A beautiful collaboration with Rising Above Boundaries and ENUBuilds on Sept. 11, 2021, in Ossining, New York, brought 15 young children to a free pop-up ballet class with three of our senior company dancers. Five of the children who attended subsequently auditioned for WBC's 2021 Nutcracker. They will make their debut as Nutcracker mice at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts this December. You can help us celebrate and support their success by attending a performance at Lehman Center (https://www.lehmancenter.org/westchester-nutcracker) or by making a contribution to our fundraising campaign (https://www.westchesterballet.org/donations).
