Emma Bathalon received the Orleans County Award, and all of the students had the opportunity to admire their work on display alongside that of other VT student artists. New term, new art students! In this project, students were given three Styrofoam cups and challenged to transform these simple, everyday objects into a complex sculptural form in which the original “cup” is no longer seen. They focussed on applying elements and principles of design, creating a strong composition through positive and negative space, demonstrating physical and visual balance, and incorporating a sense of visual movement. The goal was to push students to see beyond the ordinary and explore how simple forms can evolve into something entirely new and expressive.

Color is what makes the world a more beautiful place to live. In this project, students explored the vibrant possibilities of color! They created bold, colorful portrait paintings of an animal of their choice, carefully considering how colors mix, blend, and complement one another.
