Months in the making, finally, the installation day is here!
This piece, 14’ tall and located at the edge of Santuit Pond in Mashpee, was commissioned by the Wampanoag tribe.
It is based on a Wampanoag legend where a Sea Run Brown Trout carved the land to form the Santuit River in its search for a young maiden who sang beautiful songs at sunset.
The Trout is prominently featured in the lower portion of the piece which represents a core column of spiraling Herring, an important species for the Tribe, as well as resident species, Large Mouth Bass, Chain Pickerel, Pumpkinseed, and Yellow Perch topped with an Osprey taking a Herring for its food.
Stop down and see it in person later in the summer when the park is completed and open to the public.
